Out with the old, in with the new! Community Hospital-Fairfax, Fairfax, Missouri, has just purchased a new CT scanner.

Community Hospital-Fairfax has upgraded to a more advanced CT scanner that will provide many patients with successful visits followed by high-quality results.

A commuted tomography scan is a medical imaging technique that uses X-rays and a computer to obtain detailed imaging of the body. Images are taken from different angles to create 3D views that can show any part of the body.

The original CT scanner was purchased when the hospital was newly constructed in 2010.

Chief Operating Officer Ann Schlueter mentioned that it was time for an upgrade and that the old CT scanner “has outlived its useful life.”

Features of the new and improved CT scanner include what the hospital calls “slices,” which means the scanner has a higher image quality and will allow interventional radiology procedures that have never been performed. It will also allow additional cardiac score testing and screenings.

“The old CT scanner had technology that was aging and at its end of life. It was time for a replacement, like when your car runs out of warranty,” said Schlueter.

“We appreciate the support of our community that allows us to upgrade our technology and to offer the best we can,” Schlueter concluded.
