• At The Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “Trouble Makers,” “Sheriff of Medicine Bow,” “You Gotta Stay Happy,” and “Dynamite.”
• For a net increase in cost of $292, the Missouri Service Company has offered to install poles and fixtures that will provide almost three and one-half times as much light in Fairfax’s business district as is now being supplied, and to distribute the light better.
• While the aerial spray is being applied to Fairfax, residents are advised to stay inside their homes or places of business and to not leave their clothes on the line nor vehicles out in the open.
• A completely furnished room at the new hospital will be open to the public Saturday and Sunday. All who donate room furnishings or equipment will be recognized with plaques or name plates displayed on the doors or equipment.

• Specials at Hunter’s Hy-Klas Food Store in Fairfax include: Van Camp’s pork & beans, three 16 oz. cans for 89¢; Pepsi, eight 16 oz. bottles for 99¢; Crisco all-vegetable oil, 3 lb. can for $1.69; Tony’s pizza, 99¢ per pizza; and Swanson frozen fried chicken dinner, 69¢.
• Friends and relatives of John Ellison gathered at the Fairfax City Park Sunday to help him celebrate his 80th birthday. A basket dinner was enjoyed by many.
• The city won’t have to draw on county road machinery to assist with street maintenance in the future, since it now has a grader-scarifier to do the job. The piece of equipment was acquired from the Skidmore road district earlier this year and is a substantial savings over the price of a new one.
• The new water system construction is well under way with partial fabrication of a 100,000 gallon treated water holding tank located near the city plant. This is an added facility and will increase storage capacity from 40,000 gallons to 140,000. Upon completion of this phase, a new plant building housing a full complement of modern filtering, treating, and softening equipment will be started.

• Ed and Carol Ball of Fairfax were chosen as this year’s Atchison County Fair Parade Grand Marshals. They rode in the Fair Parade Saturday, July 24, in Rock Port. Ed and Carol have been active in 4-H since their own children joined over 35 years ago. They have supported the fair through their involvement in the livestock premium auction and Carol volunteered many times as a judge at 4-H Achievement Day.
• Mr. and Mrs. Deene Lawrence of Fairfax held a reception Sunday afternoon, July 17, for Mrs. Hazel Moore in honor of her 90th birthday.
• Yards of the Month chosen by the Xi Lambda Sorority include the following: Dean and Elizabeth Martin, Matt and Marsha Straub, Doris Taylor, and Anna Mae Kemerling.
• Pella Corporation of Shenandoah, Iowa, donated windows to the Community for Kids Preschool and Child Care.
• The 55 Alive Driving Course presented by AARP and sponsored by the Fairfax Community Betterment was held July 21 and 22 at the Community Room in Fairfax. Mildred Thomson and Norman Greever were two of the people who participated in the course.
