• Cool weather necessities are on sale at the B.P. Hunter Store in Fairfax: Key overalls, $2.98; men’s covert work shirts, $1.39; men’s covert jackets, $3.98; and ladies’ wool sweaters, $1.
• Forty-eight students are enrolled in the Fairfax High School Band. The band will play at the jamboree in Craig Friday night. There are over 30 enrolled in the chorus and the membership is still growing.
• Fred Smith will be opening his new business, Smith’s Snack Shack, September 17 in the building recently purchased from O.F. Schooler across from the city park at the end of the Main Street business district. Mr. Smith will be serving meals, short orders, sandwiches, pies, and ice cream, will be selling cigarettes, and will treat opening day customers with a free cup of coffee.
• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “Return of the Bad Men,” “The Bribe” with Robert Taylor and Ava Gardner, and “A Night At The Opera” with the Marx Brothers.
• Robert E. Jones of Iowa City, Iowa, the new administrator of Fairfax Community Hospital, has arrived in Fairfax with his wife and they are living in an apartment in the Richard Pearce residence. Mr. Jones is a native of North Dakota, spent time in New York City and the east, but returned to the midwest to finish his education and applied for the position here, beating out a score of other applicants.

• Thiesfelds Clothing of Fairfax has purchased fixtures from Clardy’s store at Rock Port and plans to open a complete clothing and fabric store in the near future at the same location. Miss Shelley Thiesfeld will be in charge of the Rock Port store.
• Pearce’s Gifts and Hobbies is holding a yarn sale September 19-28: Red Heart Wintuck, $1.19, and craft yarn, 89¢.
• The Fairfax FHA Chapter sent nine new officers, advisor Miss Gloria Shuler, and chapter mothers Mrs. Darrell Jones and Mrs. Wayne Hawkins to a workshop at Jefferson High School in Conception Junction. The FHA members discussed a project for each chapter throughout the year and Fairfax has chosen to collect funds for the American Cancer Society. While there, they also toured the Benedictine Convent.
• Fairfax’s 49’ers Hobby Club is 25 years old. Emma Creed, Carol Ball, and Margaret Osburn were recognized as the three charter members who are still active in the organization.

• The Xi Lambda Beta Sorority has selected the following as September Yards of the Month: Esther and Doyle Southard, Sarah and Deene Lawrence, Sherry and Danny Clark, and JoAn and D.C. Freemyer.
• The Fairfax kindergarten students invited their grandparents for a Grandparents’ Day celebration Monday, September 13. The students performed four different plays and then everyone enjoyed refreshments. Denver Illsley’s great-grandmother Helen Meyer and her husband traveled three hours from Gardner, Kansas, to attend the event.
• The School-to-Career program is underway at Fairfax R-3. Students participating are: Traci Davis, Community Hospital Association E.R.; Jessica Ray, Community Hospital Association Radiology Department; Stephanie Beck, Community Hospital Association E.R.; Lacey Rentschler, The Mane Thing hair salon; Corie Hicks, Fairfax City Hall; and Mary Pennel, R & L Grocery.
