• Miss Claudine Bailey of the Daleview 4-H Club won a blue ribbon at the district and state 4-H roundups on her demonstration of “Setting a Table for a Sunday Night Buffet Dinner.” She will give her demonstration at the 4-H recognition banquet November 12.
• Three Fairfax businesses have recently installed neon signs. A big sign bearing the words “Blue Bell Cafe” – which after dark shows a ringing bell – has been installed at the cafe. Fred Smith has installed a nice sign at his cafe and Mr. and Mrs. Don Fraser have put up a neon sign in front of Fair Theatre.
• Members of the Fairfax High School senior class went to Shenandoah, Iowa, Thursday of last week to have their class pictures taken.
• Mr. and Mrs. Fred Harmes and Mrs. Margaret Townsend returned Saturday from a 16-day farmers’ tour sponsored by Radio Station W.O.W. of Omaha. Some 200 people made the trip on a special train. They visited Billings, Spokane, and Seattle, spent a day in Canada, and saw Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. They also crossed the border and spent a short time in Tijuana, Mexico, before heading to Salt Lake City and Denver on their return trip home.
• Sixty-three Kiwanians and Kiwanis queens from Fairfax attended the charter night exercises for the new Burlington Junction, Missouri, club Monday evening. Fairfax was the sponsoring club and had the largest delegation present among the 300 people in attendance from Missouri, Kansas, and Iowa.
October 10, 1974
• The Fairfax Marching Bulldogs, under the direction of Brad Mathers, went to Lawrence, Kansas, Saturday to participate in the 27th annual band day at Kansas University. Rain, however, spoiled the parade and other activities planned, so the band travelled to St. Joseph where they enjoyed a show before returning home.
• In celebration of its 25th anniversary, Community Hospital Association will hold an open house Thursday, November 7. Several special events are planned to mark the occasion.
• While many farmers are complaining that soybean plants have not set pods or that pods are empty of beans, Elmer Cottle had at least one plant which belied the complaints. He was displaying a single plant with 165 pods well-filled with beans. He hastened to say that not all plants in the field were as prolific.
• Floyd Williams purchased the residence property of Mrs. Helen Hedrick in Fairfax at an auction Saturday. The purchase price was $3,500. Mrs. Hedrick has moved to Maryville to make her home. Mr. Williams owns adjoining property.

• Fairfax High School FCCLA and FFA chapters initiated new members. The four new Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America members had to dress up as Austin Powers movie characters. The FFA initiates were dressed up by the upperclassmen in different costumes, had to eat without hands, were blindfolded wherever they went, ran up and down Main Street, and had to act silly in many ways.
• The Xi Lambda Beta Sorority of Fairfax recently presented books to Community for Kids Preschool and Child Care.
• The Fairfax Marching Pride traveled to Clarinda, Iowa, to compete in the annual Clarinda Band Jamboree Saturday, October 2. Fairfax placed second out of 13 bands.
• Fairfax High School Fall Homecoming candidates are: queens – Lacy Sly, Tiffany Taylor, and Traci Davis; and kings – Brett Johnson, Davi Gomel, and Alex Hunter.
