October 14, 1949
• Showing at The Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “Rustlers,” “Lone Wolf and Lady,” “Streets of Laredo” with William Bendix and William Holden, and “On An Island With You” with Esther Williams and Peter Lawford.
• Billy Moore brought in two icicle radishes from his garden which are 12 and 16 inches in length and proportionally as thick. Billy says the seed was planted July 6th.
• A huge flock of pelicans (some say they were cranes) circled around over the west part of town for quite a while Wednesday morning attracting attention.
• Rock Port’s bowling team is in a first place tie with the Nebraska City Engineers in the Nebraska City league standings. On the first place team are Chris Simon, James Amthor, Andy Andermann, Walter Fink, and Jack Hunt.
• Rock Port Blue Jays will travel to Tarkio tonight to engage the Indians in their annual football matchup. If precedent is followed, most of Rock Port will attend. Rock Port has won six of the last seven games against Tarkio.
October 10, 1974
• John Phelps, owner and operator of Phelps Hardware in Rock Port, is selling out of the hardware business by November 1, but plans to keep the Pioneer Seed and disc-sharpening business. Phelps purchased the business and two buildings at 317 and 319 S. Main in 1971.
• A new ambulance van was purchased from Knisley Professional Auto Supply in Kansas City for $13,600. The new van is being used by Community Hospital as the primary emergency unit and the hearse-type ambulance is being used for transfers and as emergency back-up.
• Mr. and Mrs. Charles Knierim have sold their home in the Country Club Addition in Rock Port to Mr. and Mrs. Oba Sybert. The Knierims are remodeling their farm home on U.S. 136 between Rock Port and Tarkio, formerly the Emil Tiemeyer farm.
• Mr. Wayne Peck, 62, former Atchison County Treasurer, Rock Port Mayor, and City Councilman, died October 2 at the Fairfax hospital. Mr. Peck was mayor when the $55,000 Superior engine for the city light plant was purchased, as well as the new $10,000 city well and $185,000 city-wide sewer-lagoon system.

• The Rock Port Market highlights its employee Carol Underwood, who has worked at the local store for over 45 years. She has done everything from work in the meat department to running the cash register to stocking.
• Cory Amthor, Damond Wennihan, Brentlee Thomas, and Taryn Wennihan were the winners in their age groups at the Punt, Pass, and Kick competition hosted by the Rock Port Optimist Club.
• Atchison County was referenced in the October issue of National Geographic. The story dealt with the attempted salvage of a Japanese submarine, the I-52, which was sunk by Lt. Commander Jesse Taylor, 28, Watson, Missouri.
• The Rock Port sixth grade raised $550 for the Atchison County Memorial Building Restoration Fund. The money was earned by selling American flag bricks.
• Rock Port High School Homecoming candidates are Taya Moore, Brian Barbee, Tawni Gebhards, Amy Zimmerman, Ryan Hance, Steven Proctor, and Buck Meinders.
