October 14, 1949

• Showing at The Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “Streets of Laredo,” “The Pride of the Yankees” with Gary Cooper and Teresa Wright, and “Force of Evil” with John Garfield.

• The Sunday dinner menu at the Blue Bell Cafe includes: chicken or ham, sweet potato fluff, buttered carrots, sliced tomatoes, Waldorf salad, apple brown Betty, hot rolls, butter, and coffee, tea, or milk.

• Mr. and Mrs. Obadiah Prettyman celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary Wednesday, October 12. Mr. Prettyman, who came to this country from England when he was 20, has spent the past 65 years in the Fairfax community.

October 17, 1974

• Ron Baker suffered a fractured leg in a football game on the local field Monday evening. The young Bulldogs were playing Rock Port when the injury occurred.

• The Wolverine 4-H Club met Monday, October 14, at Elkdale community center with 18 members, several leaders and guests present. Vickie O’Riley was elected president, as well as other officers. Two young men from Korea sang for the club.

• A hoedown is being held at Don McCartney’s farm  with Gene Ingram as caller Saturday, October 19. Sponsored by the Friendly Neighbors Club, the $2 per couple admission will go to the Children’s Ward at Fairfax Hospital.

• Pam Cooper, Lois Ann Park, and Adah Pyeatt were among charter members of a recently formed chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international teachers’ society. Twenty-four members were initiated at the Methodist Church in Tarkio during the morning session and then the group later went to Epley Lounge at Tarkio College for a luncheon and business meeting. The new chapter has been designated as Beta Zeta.

October 14, 1999

• Sandra Mackey of Fairfax was chosen as the first place winner in the “Main Dish” category of the St. Joseph News-Press recipe contest with her Fancy Egg Scramble. She will be featured in the Volume 1 cookbook. Sandra also submitted for review recipes on Refrigerator Pumpkin Bran Muffins, Snicker Cookies, Deep Fried Turkey, Quick Breakfast Danish, Roxanne’s Homemade Caramels, and Gary’s Potato Soup.

• The Xi Lambda Beta Sorority has selected the following as Yards of the Month: Bruce and Jan Pyeatt, Wayne and JoBeth Vance, and Ted and Vicki Simmons.

• Dorothy VanGundy of Fairfax has an Easter lily that has bloomed a second time since she received it this past Easter. Dorothy said that this is very unusual, especially after the frost.

• Smokey the Bear visited the Community for Kids Preschool students Thursday, October 7, in observance of Fire Safety Week.

• Brett Johnson and Tiffany Taylor were chosen as Fairfax High School Football Homecoming King and Queen.
