East Atchison’s Sydnee Bruns was recently named KMA’s Missouri Girls’ Golfer of the Year, following her 13th place finish at state.

Three-time state medalist Sydnee Bruns earns another honor to close out her career. KMA Sports is honoring the East Atchison Lady Wolves’ “Miss Consistency” with their annual KMAland Missouri Girls’ Golfer of the Year award.

“It feels good to place for a third time,” Bruns told KMA Sports. “At districts, when I knew I made it to state, my next goal was getting another medal at state. I knew that if I got another medal I would hit my goal for the season.”

Bruns placed 10th as a sophomore and 13th in her final two trips to state, including this year when she shot a 182. Bruns posted a personal best 89 on day one, before following up with a 93 on day two.

“Throughout the first day, I knew that I was going to have to fight hard for a PR after my first nine,” Bruns said. “It felt good to know that I was going to PR with such a high level of competition. Then the second day was pretty windy, so I knew I would have to fight with the wind throughout each shot. It wasn’t another PR, but it was pretty close.”

Bruns has followed up the East Atchison girls’ golf tradition by posting another medal-winning performance. There have been seven individual medals and a team championship within the past four seasons.

“It’s great to know that I have had a team full of great people and amazing players,” Bruns said. “Their personalities and game are amazing. I loved having the opportunity to be able to play with them, and we’re all so close. We had such a close friendship prior to joining the golf team together. Throughout the seasons, it was fun to play with close friends and have a successful outcome throughout the years.”

Bruns is the third consecutive and third different winner of the KMAland Missouri Girls’ Golfer of the Year award from East Atchison, joining Alex Barnett (2023) and Kelsea Kirwan (2022).
