• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “The Lucky Stiff” with Brian Donlevy and Dorothy Lamour and “Top of the Morning” with Bing Crosby and Barry Fitzgerald.
• Walter Schmidt, who recently sold his variety store to locate in Glenwood, Iowa, has sold his residence property on South Main Street in Rock Port to Hill Slemp of the Langdon community. Schmidt will not only have his store in Glenwood, but also one in Malvern, Iowa.
• George Schoneman has sold his 60-acre farm just west of the old city standpipe to Homer Thomas, who gets possession March 1. Schoneman has invested in a 100-acre tract in the English Grove community near Fairfax, buying the place from Herbert LaHue.
• Caton Bros. truck transport company, which has had its offices at the Cheesman barbershop, moved late last week to its new building on Highway No. 275 near the local sales pavilion.
• The J.D. Armstrong Co., Inc., of Ames, Iowa, has been announced as the low bidder on construction of about three miles of levee embankment south of Rock Port, which will be an extension of the work which the Platte Valley Construction Co. has been doing in recent weeks.
December 19, 1974
• Albert Kelly Day, honoring Albert Kelly for 44 years of service, was a big success with close to 170 persons turning out at the all-day open house. Kelly, who has served as circuit clerk and recorder for 44 years, will retire December 31.
• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “Juggernaut” with Richard Harris and Omar Sharif and “Unholy Rollers” with Claudia Jennings.
• Vandals struck the Elmwood Cemetery again with four stones being damaged sometime during the last two weeks. Three stones were broken and one was pushed over.
• Mr. and Mrs. James Ottmann and daughter Shauna were in Omaha December 12 when the trunk of their car was entered while dining at Johnny’s Restaurant. Close to $300 worth of Christmas and birthday presents and a suitcase and briefcase belonging to Art Hauser of San Diego, California, who had been picked up by the Ottmanns at the airport, were taken.

• Atchison County Special Olympic bowlers ended their season at the State Indoor Classic held in St. Joseph in November. The Renegade Rollers unified team and the Lady Bugs doubles team both came home with golds. The Renegade Rollers include Jennifer Brown, Tami Grossman, Janice Brown, and Leola Brown. The Lady Bugs include Pam Hicks and Janet Peters.
• Members of the P.E.O. Chapter DU met for their Christmas meeting December 6. It was decided to make annual Christmas donations to the Rock Port School for needed clothing purchases, Head Start for children’s books, and to International Peace Scholar.
• Jeffery Weydert is the new loan officer at Bank Midwest in Rock Port. He worked nine years for the Farm Service Agency making loans.
