• March roared in Wednesday on high winds that ranged up to 41 miles per hour with strong gusts. The mercury dipped to a frigid 6 degrees at the local U.S. Airways Communications Station.
• The Tarkio High School junior class will present “Cheerio, My Deario” Thursday, March 9, at the Tarkio High School Auditorium. Admission is 65¢ for reserved seats, 50¢ for general seating, and 35¢ for students. Proceeds will be used for the annual Junior-Senior Prom.
• Showing at The Tarkio Theatre: “Mexican Hayride” with Abbott and Costello; “Prince of The Plains” with Monte Hale and Shirley Davis; “Body and Soul” with John Garfield; “Battleground” with Van Johnson, John Hodiak, R. Montalban, and G. Murphy; “Wake of Red Witch” with John Wayne and Gail Russell; and “Crashin’ Through” with Whip Wilson and Andy Clyde.

• Mrs. Opal L. Gish, 60, owner and operator of the Tumble Inn restaurant in Tarkio for the past 20 years, died February 26 at the Fairfax Community Hospital. Mrs. Gish has been involved in the restaurant industry in Tarkio for about 40 years.
• Tarkio’s weather report for the past week showed the high temperature of 44 occurred on February 28 and the low was 8 degrees on March 3. There was no precipitation.
• Tonight at the Tri-State Artist-Lecture Series, Jack Ledbetter, poet from California Lutheran College, will present. Dr. Ledbetter is the author of many poems and articles and served as Poet-In-Residence at Holden Village in Washington during the summer of 1974.
• Tarkio High School elected its 1975-76 Student Body President and Vice-President. The student body will be led by Cathy Corbin and Jeannie Ohrt.

• Larry and Jeannine Broermann and Dick and Sharon Grebe were on a cruise ship, Carnival Destiny, that had just begun a 7-day cruise to San Juan, St. Croix, and St. Thomas when the ship’s two cycloconverters, which control the transmission of electrical power to the ship’s propulsion motors, went out. Although technicians came to fix the problem, the ship had to limp back to Miami, Florida, where the cruise ship’s travelers were treated to a full refund of their trip and airfare, a 50 percent discount on a future cruise, complimentary beverages, free satellite telephone calls, and a stay on the ship as a “hotel” until the end of their 7-day vacation. They were also provided with complimentary shore excursions and the Tarkio group toured the Everglades.
• Ask Elsie Fae column: “I have made proposals to several men, but none of them want to be president or even vice-president of Community Betterment. It takes a woman to do the really difficult jobs.”
• Kathi Lehman, Tarkio Elementary sixth grader, placed second in the Atchison County Spelling Bee. Jordan Freborg of Rock Port, Missouri, was the winner and will advance to regionals, with Kathi being the alternate.
