• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “Scene of the Crime” with Van Johnson and Gloria DeHaven and “My Friend Irma.”

• The S.J. Peterson Construction Company has installed a two-way radio communication system and has received authority from the Federal Communication Commission to operate them. The system allows the car of S.J. Peterson, two cars of Frances Karns, and one of Melvin Nauman to stay in touch with the main office at all times. Don Bacon supervised the installation and the tower is located in his yard in Fairfax.

• Bryan Hines of St. Joseph, former world champion wrestler and one of the American athletes who participated in the 1924 Olympic contests in Paris, spoke to the Kiwanians Tuesday in Fairfax.

• Hayden Pyeatt took his agriculture III class to Tarkio Monday to attend John Deere Day at the Atchison County Implement Company.

March 13, 1975

• Mr. and Mrs. James Earl Whitford have purchased the Hire Pharmacy in Savannah, Missouri, and took possession early this month. Mr. Whitford, a registered pharmacist, and his wife will move to Savannah as soon as suitable housing can be arranged.

• At the regular meeting of the Fairfax City Council Wednesday, March 5, Mrs. Shirley Wennihan was appointed Fairfax City Clerk to succeed Everett A. Deardorff. Mr. Deardorff has held the position for the past 26 years.

• The Fairfax 7th graders have been studying the metric system of measurement in their math and science classes. A metric olympics was held March 5. Winners were: Reach and Jump – Darla Thompson .37 meters and Curtis Phelps .55 meters; 20 Meter Race – Joni O’Riley, Judy Gigliottti, and Krista Kruse 4.1 seconds and Jim Vogler, Kent Fisher, Mike Morris, and Todd Walker 4.0 seconds; Backward Hop – Darla Thompson and Krista Kruse .92 meters and Greg Young .97 meters; Running Broad Jump – Bonnie Gamache 2.58 meters and Todd Walker 3.15 meters; and Standing 3 Hop – Darla Liles 5.85 meters and Mike Morris 6.15 meters.

• The Fairfax High School Lady Bulldogs Basketball Team won the Missouri Class 1A District 32 Championship by defeating the Tarkio Lady Indians 58-55 at the district tournament held in Fairfax. Lacy Sly led the Lady Bulldogs with 29 points, hitting six three-pointers, one of which came when there was only one second left on the clock in overtime.

• An 83rd birthday party for Winfred “Spoofy” Watkins was held at the Community Room in Fairfax Saturday, February 26. Around 80 people, including his two children, attended the celebration.

• Fairfax Elementary students celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday with a bunch of fun-filled festivities. They even dressed as Dr. Seuss characters. Winners were: early childhood – Nicholas Simmons; kindergarten – Lauren Clark and Darian Burke; first grade – Dyllan Mattly; second grade – Chelsea Miller; third grade – Devin Adams and Cody Gladman; fourth grade – Colleen O’Riley; fifth grade – Tyson Miller; and sixth grade – Sarah Johnson.
