John Davis, Tarkio Tech President, handed out information on their next capital campaign project, which is refurbishing the old Tarkio College cafeteria building into a multi-purpose facility that can be used by the entire county.

Paige Agnew shared news on activities that are being planned by the Tarkio Parks and Recreation Board.

ACDC Director Monica Bailey introduced the guest speakers and talked about the good things happening in Atchison County.

Atchison County Development Corporation (ACDC) held its first of three community luncheons at the Tarkio Nutrition Center on Thursday, March 6, 2025. This was originally scheduled to be on Wednesday, but the weather had other plans.

Following the meal, Director Monica Bailey welcomed everyone and introduced the guest speakers.

First was Paige Agnew, who was representing the Tarkio Parks and Rec Board. Paige brought everyone up to date as to what the board has planned for the summer. They are in the middle of hiring staff for the Tarkio Pool which is opening as scheduled. Their Glow in the Dark Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for April 18, 2025, on the Tarkio Tech lawn. Paige also welcomed any suggestions for new events or actives that the community would like to see.

Next, Monica introduced John Davis, Tarkio Tech President. John talked about all of the good things happening on campus. They now have rooms available for students who aren’t from the area and need a place to stay. This enables Tarkio Tech to recruit a much larger area with housing available on campus. Their current project is to redevelop the former Tarkio College cafeteria. The building is expected to become much more than a cafeteria for the current students, but also a restaurant, day care for both children and adults that might need supervision, and a tool store where not only students but community members can find the perfect tool for any job. This project is an eight million dollar project.

Monica Bailey wrapped up the meeting talking about all of the great things happening, including the business grants that are available to Atchison County businesses.

If you missed the Tarkio luncheon there are two more chances to attend. Next is Rock Port, Wednesday, March 12, at Dusty Trail, followed by Fairfax on Wednesday, March 19,  at the Fire Station Community Room. Please RSVP at 660-744-6562.
