March 16, 1950
• Showing at The Tarkio Theatre: “Bandits of Eldorado,” “Stormy Weather” with Bill Robinson, and “Oh, You Beautiful Doll” with Mark Stevens and June Haver.
• Around 1,500 students from 38 high schools of Missouri, Iowa, and Nebraska are gathered at Tarkio College for the Tri-State Speech and Music Festival.
• Heard & McClain announced the opening of their blacksmith shop. The shop will do general blacksmithing, welding, and other repair jobs and is located in a new building on Chestnut Street, just off of First Street. The owner/operators are J.A. Heard and J.C. McClain.
• Mr. Hughes of Nutrena Mills will be guest speaker at the farmers evening class Monday. He will discuss feeds and the feeding of farm animals from a feeder’s point of view. Proper nutrition of all classes of livestock will be discussed.
March 20, 1975
• Improper storage of a mop next to a hot water heater caused a fire Saturday which gutted a dorm unit at Pardee Hall of the Ponderosa at Tarkio College. Firemen were hampered by a lack of water pressure from the hydrant on campus and had to go to a city hydrant on 13th Street with a stretch of nearly three blocks of hose. One of the occupants of the room was treated at the hospital in Fairfax and then taken to the Cleveland, Ohio, Burn Center for treatment.
• Dr. Horace H. Underwood of the Tarkio College Division of Language and Literature is taking a group of college students to South Korea for a month of Far Eastern education. The students will visit Seoul and then begin a time of real Korean living – eating and sleeping in small Korean inns, climbing a mountain, visiting a fishing village, and examining Kyung-ju, a city over 1,500 years old.
• The Tarkio Farmers and Valley Bank will open a new banking facility in Westboro Monday, March 24. Mrs. Adolph Vette will manage the branch. Hours will be 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

• The Tarkio High School 4th hour ag class recently built and painted a new sign directing visitors to Tarkio High School. The bright red and white arrowhead is located at the corner of Chestnut and 10th Streets in Tarkio. Class members who had a hand in this project include Allen Wennihan, Jared Hall, Joshua Colflesh, Andy Heck, Brad Heits, Brandon Peregrine, and Robert Mitchell.
• Alan and Jackie Aeschliman experienced a very weird coincidence this past week. While driving his company truck along a golf course in Parkville, Missouri, March 8, a tree limb fell directly onto Alan’s truck, smashing the cab, tool box, and quarter panel. Then, that night or early the next morning, a tree limb fell onto Jackie’s Oldsmobile, which was parked in their driveway in Tarkio. The tree limb broke the windshield and put a huge dent in the hood. Thankfully, no one was injured in either mishap.
• Quality Auto Repair hosted a “Spring Into Savings” Firestone Farm Tire event on Friday, March 10. Coffee and donuts were served throughout the day while hot dogs, chili dogs, and chips were served at lunchtime.
