St. Patrick’s Day is a day to eat cabbage and corned beef. A day for four leaf clovers and luck of the Irish. A day to wear green and pinch those who don’t. A day about Leprechauns and pots of gold at the end of the rainbows.
It can be fun to partake, but as Christians we know that it isn’t about luck but about faith. It isn’t about pots of gold at the end of the rainbow, but instead the rainbow is a promise from God. I like to wear green on St. Patrick’s Day, but I am thankful that I don’t depend on luck to get me through my life. Instead, I have the promises of God.
I am thankful that my faith in God is what sustains me and gives me hope.
Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
The Lord sustains us. He has plans for our lives and a purpose. They are plans to prosper us for His Kingdom purposes and to give us hope and a future.
Matthew 17:20 says, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
So, while these holidays are fun to partake in, I hope that we put our faith and trust in the one who saves us and gives us hope and a future. The one who says, if you have faith, you will move mountains. Let us not put our hope in four leaf clovers or pots of gold at the of the rainbow but instead let us put our hope in Jesus Christ, who died so that we may live, who was laid in the tomb for three days and rose the third day in victory and gives us that same Resurrection power if we believe that He is the Christ and then place our faith in Him, making Him Lord and Savior of our lives.
Our faith and hope is found in Christ alone. I have a shirt that says, “Who needs luck when you have Jesus?” And I think that is so fitting for today. Put your faith in Christ and enjoy the corned beef and cabbage. Don’t leave it up to luck, have faith in the one who died for you and rose again, Jesus Christ, the one true Living God.
