• Showing at The Tarkio Theatre: “Ride ’Em Cowboy” with Abbott and Costello, “Daughter of The West” with Phillip Reed, “Chicago Deadline” with Alan Ladd, “Key To The City” with Clark Gable and Loretta Young, and “Thieves Hi-Way” with Richard Conte and V. Coresta.

• Effective April 30, pickup and delivery service on express packages will be discontinued in Tarkio. Express service to and from Tarkio will be continued by the Railway Express agency.

• New building construction is underway this spring in Tarkio. Work is underway building the future home of the Tarkio Truck and Tractor Co., Inc. at Sixth and Main streets. A new building, which will enlarge the facilities of the Flesner Texaco Service Station at 101 Main Street, is also well underway. Work has also begun on Charles M. Crider’s new residence property at 506 Maple Street. The John Prathers are building a one-story ranch style residence at 905 Chestnut Street. Mr. and Mrs. Doug Melton are building a new residence on Pine Street.

• More than 500 residents went to the polls Tuesday to elect seven city officials and two school board directors. Mayor Claude A. Templeton was unopposed. Miss Ora V. Schick was relected City Collector. Aldermen elected were Henry Balle, Jr., Howard Moore, and J. H. McCoy. Virgil Harbison and Harold Mertz were reelected to the school board.

April 10, 1975

• John Abbott has been named the new manager of the Tarkio Hy-Vee Food Store. Abbott is replacing Jerry Malin, who has been the Tarkio store manager since 1972. Abbott joined the Hy-Vee organization in 1954 as a part-timer in Centerville, where he was employed until 1965, when he transferred to C.R. No. 3.

• The Tri-State Artist Lecture Series at Tarkio College will present Parapsychologist Russ Burgess Friday, April 11, at Schecter Auditorium. Burgess is internationally known for his ability to read unspoken thoughts and to predict the future.

• The Tarkio College Booster Club will sponsor a dance April 12 at the Tarkio College Mule Barn. Music will be provided by Flash Cook and the Corvette Kids. The leader of the band is TC alum Phil Cook. This is the first dance ever to be held at the Mule Barn.

April 6, 2000

• Tarkio High School music students brought home a record breaking 20 “I” ratings from the District Music Festival held at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. The chorus as a whole received a I, as well as six vocal ensembles and eight individual soloists. Five instrumentalists also received Is on their solos.

• Vilas A. Jones was elected Mayor and Hazel L. Buckley was elected City Collector in the Tarkio Municipal Election.

• Winners of the Pinewood Derby were: Webelos – 1st place and Best Paint Kyle Heits, 2nd place Tanner Umbarger, and 3rd place Matthew Brought; and Cub Scouts – 1st place Andrew Aeschliman, 2nd place Cody Mandeville, 3rd place Spencer White, Best Design Jesse Murphy, and Most Original Jacob Riley.
