• Tarkio experienced a touch of summer weather this week with a maximum temp of 86 degrees recorded Tuesday. A minimum of 47 for the week was recorded last Friday.
• Mr. Homer Whitford, Tarkio College class of 1910, will present a recital on the recently dedicated Frederick W. Mueller memorial organ in the chapel of David Rankin Hall.
• Henry Prather is expected to arrive in Tarkio today. He has been in Salzburg, Austria, with the Bureau of Displacement commission. Mr. Prather has been in Europe since January of 1949.
• Johnny Holmberg, 18-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Holmberg of Kansas City, was visiting his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Welch of Tarkio, last Friday afternoon when he accidentally drank fuel oil. After receiving treatment at the hospital in Fairfax, he was able to return home that night.

• A total of 25 Cub Scouts braved the hazards of spinouts, bumping cars, hitting curbs, and hitting each other in the third annual Cub-Mo-Bile races held Sunday, May 18. Trophy winners were: 1st, David Bussard; 2nd, Tim Cozzens; 3rd, Paul Crapson; 4th, Todd Graves; 5th, Rick Tunnell; 6th, Randy Tunnell; and 7th, Mike Hubbard.
• Dr. and Mrs. Horace Underwood and family will leave on Saturday, June 2, to spend the summer in Korea. They will fly to Seoul and visit with Dr. Underwood’s parents, who have been missionaries there a number of years. Living wth the elder Underwoods is a little Korean girl who will join the younger Underwoods as an adopted daughter when the family returns to the states. There, she will join her siblings, another adopted child of Korean birth and the Underwoods’ two sons.
• Yards of the Month for May included: Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Driskell, 404 N. 3rd; Mr. and Mrs. William Taylor, 407 Chestnut; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wright, 811 Main; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Schau, 912 College; Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Porter, 1112 Chestnut; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Whitlow, 1101 College; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bowman, 712 N. 6th; Mr. and Mrs. Olin Cloepfil, Spruce Street; and Mr. and Mrs. Don Zembles, 113 Sycamore.
• Mrs. Alesta Smith and her daughter, Mrs. Don Newell of Kansas, have been on a trip to Africa to visit her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Sam McNaughton, at Tanzania. Dr. McNaughton is studying plant life. They plan to make some stops in Europe before returning home.

• Five Tarkio High School Lady Indians are heading to the state track meet in Jefferson City May 19 and 20. Ashely Poptanycz qualified with a first place district finish in the shot put. Senior Jamie Knierim qualified in the 400 meter dash. Jessica McClain qualified in the 800 meter run. The 3200 meter relay team of Jessica McClain, Nicole Salmond, Emily Salmond, and Jamie Knierim also qualified.
• Nate Defenbaugh and Jamie Knierim were named Tarkio High School Outstanding Senior Athletes. Luke Cox and Jamie Knierim were named Mr. and Miss THS. The THS yearbook was dedicated to Dave Lee and Pat Peterson.
• Anne and George Barnett’s residence and yard at 711 Walnut Street was named Yard of the Month, as well as the Denise Nuckolls residence at 1109 Park Street in Tarkio.
