Atchison County agencies which have to deal with farming operations have decided that the local rate for shucking corn this fall and winter will be 7 and 8 cents a bushel. Shuckers who are furnished board will be paid 7 cents, while those who provide their own meals will be paid 8 cents a bushel. Across the river in Nebraska there was some early talk of paying as much as 10 and 11 cents a bushel, but this was doubtless in sections where the crop will be by no means as heavy as it promises to be in Atchison County.

The Rock Port High School marching band took the first place trophy for the class C bands at the NWMSC Band Day held at Maryville, September 30. The band is directed by Roger Buhr. There were six other bands in the class C competition besides Rock Port.
The Bank of Atchison County, Rock Port, recently purchased the Frozen Food Locker from Paul Bradney, and will use the building for future expansion. According to J.R. Bailey, president, the bank hopes to resell the food processing fixtures so as to keep the business in Rock Port. There are no plans at present as to what will be done with the building.

The High School Marching Band traveled to Shenandoah to participate in the Shenandoah Festival Parade. They marched to “Phantom of the Opera” and received the first place trophy for the 2A division. Ms. Michelle Hatcher’s comments on the parade were, “I was pleased with the conduct and performance of the students. I thought they did a very good job. The band should be proud of their accomplishments and I think it is only the first of many.”
David and Dawn Lair, Rock Port, are proud to announce the birth of a son. He has been named Ransom Cole. Ransom was born October 3, at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, Iowa, and weighed 8 pounds 2 ounces. He was welcomed home by his two older brothers, Trystan 6 and Brogan 4.
