The Rock Port Tourism Board will host its third Summer Palooza Wednesday, May 21, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Rock Port Memorial Park. This family friendly event is free and open to all ages. Activities will include 10 bounce houses, a photo booth, and horseback rides. Hot dogs, water, and chips will also be available free of charge. All children must be registered (register at the gate) and wearing their wristband to participate (parents are required to attend with their children).

The Fairfax Avenue of Flags will be displayed in the Fairfax City Park for Memorial Day. Volunteers are needed to help raise the flags at 7:30 a.m. Friday, May 23, and lower them Tuesday, May 27, at 4:00 p.m. The Avenue of Flags project is under the direction of John Richards American Legion Post #284. The flags are flown in memory of those who served their country.

The Tarkio High School Alumni Banquet will be held Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the Tarkio High School Gymnasium. Social hour will begin at 5:00 p.m., followed by group photos at 5:30 p.m., the dinner at 6:00 p.m., and a business meeting at 7:00 p.m. A dance will follow at the Tarkio Community Building from 8:30 to 11:00 p.m.

District baseball has started for Atchison County ball teams. The East Atchison Wolves won their first game against Northeast Nodaway/Worth County Friday, but Monday night’s game was postponed to Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. They will play Maysville in Burlington Junction. The Rock Port Blue Jays also won their game against North Andrew and will play for the Class 1 District 16 championship Wednesday, May 21, at 5:00 p.m. at the city park in Rock Port. Good luck teams!

All Vietnam era veterans who served from August 5, 1965, to April 25, 1975, are invited to a 50-year anniversary recognition Monday, May 26, 2025, at the Atchison County Memorial Building in Rock Port. Please plan to arrive at 10:00 a.m. that morning.
