• The Kiwanis committee appointed to put up street markers in Fairfax have completed the job. Now houses are to be numbered and the Kiwanis Club will provide numbers at $1 each.
• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “Dear Wife” with William Holden, Joan Caulfield, and Edward Arnold, and “Malaya” with Spencer Tracy, James Stewart, and John Hodiak.
• Mrs. Henry Hathhorn of Fairfax passed away in a St. Joseph, Missouri, hospital Friday, June 30. May Hathhorn was born May 19, 1897, in Blackburn, Lancashire, England. She came to America in August of 1947 to join her daughter, Mrs. Edna Wichael, who had come to America after the close of WWII. She married Henry Hathhorn of Fairfax in 1948.
• The Rev. Harold M. Parker, Jr., pastor of the English Grove and Fairfax Presbyterian Churches, announced his resignation Sunday morning.
• The nephew of the late cowboy humorist Will Rogers will be here to act as announcer at the 4-State Roundup. Clem McSpadden of Claremore, Oklahoma, is a nationally-known rodeo official.
• Alex Thomson, retired farmer and long-time resident of Dale township, passed away Saturday. Alexander Thomson was a native of Scotland, born in Keirmill Village, Dunfreeshire County, September 1, 1868. He came to Atchison County, Missouri, as a boy of 14 and spent the remainder of his life here. He married Christina Sillers March 13, 1893, and they had 10 children.
• According to the assessment books of County Assessor H. R. Alexander, the valuation of Atchison County for taxable purposes totals $22,195,190. Total value of real estate is $17,871,310 and personal property valuation is $4,323,880.

• Mrs. Alice May Bush died Sunday evening at the age of 92. Alice, the daughter of Daniel Albert and Sarah Walkup Kelly, was born December 19, 1882, and was a rural school teacher in her youth.
• Midwest Movers of Tarkio were the successful bidders on a $21,000 building to house the Fairfax City and Rural Fire Departments and provide office space for city officials. The metal building will be erected adjacent to the city water plant at the west edge of town.
• Several men celebrated the final payment on a $235,000 school bond issue, which was passed by voters of the Fairfax R-III District in April 1955. The issue financed the building of the elementary building, gymnasium, and remodeling of the existing building. Construction of a cafeteria and music building were financed without bond issues. The school district is now debt free.

• Community Hospital employees in Fairfax honored Carmie Fletemeyer for all of her hard work and dedication to the courtyard and flower garden she created at the hospital. A plaque announcing it as “Carmie’s Garden” has been installed next to the garden.
• The Fairfax United Methodist Church sponsored a Summer Fun Day in the Fairfax City Park June 28 for Club J.A.M. (Jesus And Me) and other community youth.
• The Fairfax volleyball green team won the SOS Volleyball Tournament held June 26 in the Fairfax High School Gym. Team members were Ashley Grossman, Melinda Stoner, Stephanie Beck, Crissy Vance, Kasie Morris, Katie Heitman, Janah Heits, Ashley Hawkins, and Stephanie Sinkhorn.
