• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port – “Riders Of The Range,” “Follow Me Quietly,” and “They Live By Night.”
• The featured Family of the Week is Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Thomson and four sons, Richard, Wayne, Gary, and Robert, living seven miles southeast of Fairfax. He feeds cattle, along with his normal farming operations, cultivating 465 acres.
• A water main cleaning company from Omaha, Nebraska, is doing a cleaning job on the local water mains running from the pumping station on the Missouri River bottom to the large reservoir west of town.
• “To keep young, associate as much as possible with young people. To get old in a hurry, try keeping up with them.”
• Sponsored by the Community Club, Rock Port’s annual community picnic will be held at the city park Friday evening. There will be a fried chicken supper with other good things to eat for $1.25 per person.
• Mr. and Mrs. Howard Bunton have sold the Rock Port Market to Raymond Leisman of Watson, who takes over the store Monday, July 31. Mr. Leisman operated a store in Watson for 17 years.
July 24, 1975
• There will be no excuse for not knowing the time and temperature in downtown Rock Port come September when the Bank of Atchison County has their large outdoor time-temperature clock installed. The 24-foot high brick pilon will include the new bank logo on top then the temperature sign followed by the time sign.
• Something new has been added to the Rock Port Post Office. For the first time in the history of the local department, a woman has been employed. Miss Marcia McNulty, 25, of Tarkio has been employed on a part-time flexible time basis. The county has had the postmistresses for years and Tarkio has had a lady city carrier for some time, but this is a first for Rock Port.
• Paving on I-29 began July 14 with workmen completing over one-third of the 11.25 miles in six days for quite an impressive pace in paving double lanes.
July 20, 2000
• Thirty-five years ago on July 25, 1965, Robert Patterson and June Schaper were united in marriage in Islip, Long Island, New York. Bob and June have made their home in the Rock Port area since 1967 and have lived at their present address since 1971.
• Citizens Bank & Trust held its annual Men’s Day Golf Tournament July 11 at the Rock Port Golf and Country Club. All of the winners donated their money back to the bank to be used for the new covered show arena at the Atchison County Fairgrounds. The bank matched the donations, making the total donated $1,200.30. There were 120 golfers and 142 who enjoyed lunch. The winners were Kenny Joesting, Gary Vette, Bob Batschelet, and Bill Smith with a score of 58.
• “Club Can Do Kids Called To Care” was the theme of this year’s United Methodist Church’s Vacation Bible School. The main message was “Always remember I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Around 50 children attended.
• At the Rock Port Market: Texas whole watermelons, 19¢ per pound; Idaho russet potatoes, $1.29 for a 10 pound bag; country style ribs, $1.69 per pound; and Post Toasties cereal, 99¢ for 18 ounce package.
