Where has the time gone?

It’s almost time for school to start back up. Don’t forget the tax-free weekend for back-to-school shopping! It will be Friday, August 1, through Sunday, August 3. But before school starts back up, the Fairfax Optimist Club will be putting on its 59th annual Fairfax Fair August 15-17. Look for Rock Port Senior Center to have a booth full of games and prizes for the kiddos! We will be next to the dunking booth. This year’s booth will need volunteers. If you wish to sign up to work at the center’s booth, please contact Maria at 660-254-5899 or the center at 660-744-5812. All volunteers are greatly appreciated.

There will be a new Alzheimer’s Support Group meeting hosted by Pastor David Shadinger. If you or anyone you know is living with and caring for persons with dementia, check out this meeting. The first meeting will be on Thursday, August 7, at 10:00 a.m. at the Rock Port Senior Center. All are welcome to stay for lunch.

Rock Port Senior Center has two items up for raffle. Roy Wayne Esser and James Howard Thompson have made and donated rustic coat racks for us to raffle. All proceeds go back to the center toward activities for the senior citizens. One ticket is $3 or you can get two for $5. See Maria at the center for your tickets. The center appreciates Roy and James for their time, craftsmanship, and donation of these items. The drawing for both items will be held at Old Fashioned Saturday Night, September 20. Look for the ad in the paper and flyers around town.

The Rock Port Senior Center elected officers of the board at our last monthly meeting. New officers are: Kenneth Miller, president; Pam Henderson, vice-president; Shirley Cook, treasurer; and Dana Thompson, secretary. Other board members are Steve Proctor, Betty Stoner, Debbie Lutz, Brenda Scamman, and Chuck Sierks. A full list of Board of Directors is available at the center.

Our suggested contribution, as mentioned in previous articles, has gone up. The new suggested contribution is $5. Please remember, if you wish to contribute, do so within your budget. Thank you all for your understanding with new state and federal guidelines.

With school starting back up we will be looking for a couple volunteers to fill vacancies in our home delivery pool. If you wish to volunteer or for information, please stop in the center to speak with Maria, or call.
