Join the Atchison County Health Department and Community Hospital-Fairfax for milk and cookies at a community baby shower Wednesday, August 13, to celebrate Breastfeeding Awareness Month. All expecting parents and new parents with babies and children are welcome to this come and go event from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Atchison County Health Department, 521 Main Street in Tarkio. Hope N Reigns Counseling of Tarkio is sponsoring a back-to-school arcade event at A Place On Main in Tarkio. Come enjoy free arcade games and snacks from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 13, at 509 Main Street in Tarkio. Kids of all ages and their parents are welcome to attend.

The Fairfax Fair will be held Friday and Saturday, August 15 and 16, followed by church and lunch in the park on Sunday, August 17. Stop by the Fairfax City Park and enjoy booths of games, giveaways, good food, and entertainment beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday and all afternoon Saturday with entertainment beginning at 6:00 p.m. Saturday night. A parade on Main Street will also take place Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Church will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday at the park (if it rains, it will be held at the Methodist Church), followed by a pork loin dinner at the Fairfax Community Room from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The Watson, Missouri, Volunteer Fire Department is hosting its annual Tom Gibson Memorial Fishing Tournament Saturday, August 16, from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event will begin and end at the Watson boat dock on the Missouri River. Each person can enter a fish they caught (of any kind) on a rod and reel. Fish must be checked in alive at the boat dock by 3:00 p.m. The firemen will host a fish fry at the Watson Community Building, which starts at 5:00 p.m. Free-will donations will be accepted. (A drawing will also take place at the fish fry and participants must be present to win).
