• Showing at The Tarkio Theatre: “Blondie’s Hero,” “The Cowboy And The Indians,” “Three Come Home,” and “The Last Bandit.”
• Within the next two weeks, construction will begin on the new Hy-Klas Super Mart between Sixth and Seventh streets on Main Street in Tarkio. Steel for the building arrived this week. The building and two parking lots will occupy two 50-foot lots in the center of the block between the Lloyd Terwilliger storage building and City Hall.
• The Havana Cuban Stars, in the United States for the first time in many years and the only team from Cuba presently touring the Midwest, will play the Tarks at the Community Park Monday, August 21. The team is a young one, the average age of the squad is 24 years, with salty veterans balancing it out.
August 21, 1975
• The family of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Richards of near Northboro, Iowa, met at their home for a campout over the weekend of August 8-11 for the happy occasion of celebrating both parents’ birthdays and their 60th wedding anniversary. Thirty-nine relatives gathered at the Morris Richards home in Northboro on Friday.
• A Tarkio Bicentennial Labor Day Celebration will take place Monday, September 1. The day-long event will include: a parade, flag presentation, booths and vendors in the park, games (including sack races, skillet throwing, horseshoes, and frog and turtle races), ice cream social, band concert, and flag disposal ceremony.
• The Tarkio Volunteer Fire Department assisted with efforts to contain a huge fire on the south side of the square in the Maryville, Missouri, business district Sunday. Several area firemen fought the blaze from 5:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon Sunday. A total of a dozen businesses were somehow affected by the blaze, five of which were totally destroyed.
• Three and one-half miles of new construction of Route C from Highway 59 east to Westboro, Missouri, was opened on Tuesday. Still to be completed is another half mile that remains closed to traffic. Cost of the project, which has taken over a year and a half to complete, is $2.1 million dollars. The new four mile stretch of asphalt will be 22 feet wide. The old road was 20 feet in width.

• Ashely Poptanycz of Westboro, Tiffany Taylor of Fairfax, and Kate Griffin of Rock Port recently returned from Limerick, Ireland, where they played basketball. The girls had fun and after each game, they exchanged gifts such as t-shirts and key chains with their competitors from Ireland.
• Buffy Wolfe of Council Bluffs, Iowa, has joined Kathy Athen and Sharlyn Chitwood at Sharlyn’s Beauty Den in Tarkio.
• A new office at Tarkio R-I was recently completed. Tarkio High School Principal Ed Defenbaugh and secretary Suzanne Brought took up residence in the office just in time for the start of the school year.
• New teachers at Tarkio R-I are Jan Taylor, who will be teaching first grade, and Cindy Rolf, who will be teaching third grade.
