Liberty Theatre shows their appreciation for Mikaela and Devon Sons, pictured with their sons, Ethan and Barrett, who dedicated many years to the legacy of Liberty Theatre and its productions.

As Liberty Theatre in Rock Port turns the page to a new chapter, the theatre’s organizers, volunteers, stage and lighting crews, actors and actresses, and musicians pause to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary contributions of Devon and Mikaela Sons. Their talents and dedication have left a lasting impact on the Liberty Theatre stage and the community.

Devon, a longtime director and actor, brought an unforgettable lineup of shows to life, guiding casts and crews with vision, energy, and heart. His directing credits include: “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” (2012), “Little Women” (2014 and 2019), “9 to 5” (2015), “Into the Woods” (2015), “A Christmas Carol” (2015), “The Little Mermaid” (2016), “White Christmas” (2016), “Shrek” (2017), “Beauty and the Beast” (2018), “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” (2018 and 2019), “The Sound of Music” (2021), “Freaky Friday” (2022), “The Addams Family” (2023), and “The Music Man” (2024).

Mikaela has been both a vibrant presence on stage in the adult productions listed above and a passionate leader behind the scenes. She launched and coordinated Liberty Theatre’s youth summer camp and directed numerous junior productions, including: “Frozen Jr.” (2019), “The Little Mermaid Jr.” (2022), “The Lion King Jr.” (2023), “Seussical Jr.” (2024), and “Shrek Jr.” (2025).

Together, Devon and Mikaela gave our community more than just performances – they created memories, mentorship, and magic. Though they have recently moved from the area, the Liberty Theatre Committee hopes they know that Liberty Theatre and Atchison County will always be their home. Whether they return to direct, perform, or simply visit, the door is always open and the spotlight will be waiting.

As Liberty Theatre moves forward, new leaders, directors, and volunteers are being sought to continue this tradition of excellence.
