
Lyllis Marie Vette, the daughter of Lee and Dora (Howard) Nelson, was born on June 23, 1931, in Westboro, Missouri. She attended the rural school of North Polk, then attended Tarkio High School, Tarkio, Missouri, graduating in 1949. Lyllis attended Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, Missouri, for one year.
On November 14, 1953, Lyllis was united in marriage to Adolph Carl Vette at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Westboro, by Rev. F. W. Nolte. They became the parents of three children, Janet, Jill, and Randy. They made their home in Westboro, where Lyllis resided for 70 years. Adolph passed away in 1991.
Lyllis became employed by the Farmers State Bank, Tarkio, in 1964. She was hired as a teller and was promoted throughout her career to positions of cashier and head cashier. In 1989, Lyllis was honored with a dinner commemorating 25 years of service to the bank, but Lyllis remained working at the bank for another 19 years. Lyllis retired in 2008 as a vice-president of the bank, having worked 44 years.
Lyllis was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church. She passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
Besides her parents and husband, Adolph Vette, Lyllis was preceded in death by her daughter, Janet Robinson; and siblings, Maurice Nelson, Marjorie Fetterer, and Kenneth Nelson. Survivors include children, Jill (Russ) Sharp and Randall (Donna Beber) Vette; grandchildren, Cory (Stacey) Robinson, Kyle (Emma) Robinson, Stephanie (Jordan) Delameter, Neil (Molly) Robinson, and Michelle (Alex Weise) Sharp; great-grandchildren, Kinsey, Kaden, Dillon, Cohen, Declan, and Luca Robinson; siblings, Mildred (Charlie) Hurst, Mary Ann Ohrt, Larry (Linda) Nelson, and Debbie (Charlie) Martin; sister-in-law, Samantha (Bryce) McBride; numerous nieces and nephews; bonus daughters, Rawn Weston and Michelle Poppa; and best friend, Shirley McLaren.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2025, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Westboro. Rev. Franz J. Brandenburg will conduct the service. There is no scheduled visitation. Interment will be at St. John’s Cemetery, Westboro. Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Westboro. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home.
