Classes for the 2025-26 school year will begin this week at all three Atchison County Schools. School will resume Wednesday, August 20, with a full day of classes (8:00 a.m.-3:10 p.m.) at Tarkio R-I. The new school year begins Wednesday, August 20, with a full day of classes (7:50 a.m.-3:30 p.m. for high school and 8:00 a.m.-3:40 p.m. for elementary) at Rock Port R-II. The first day of school for Fairfax R-3 students will be Wednesday, August 20, with classes starting at 7:55 a.m. and dismissing that day at 12:08 p.m. (both breakfast and lunch will be served).

The Atchison County Library is hosting a Lego Night for kids Thursday, August 21, from 5-6 p.m. in the Fairfax Library. There will be books and movies for sale at the Fairfax Library during the Farmers Market Friday, August 22, from 7:00 a.m. to 12 noon. A Read & Sip Coffee Meet Up will be held Monday, August 25, at 10:00 a.m. at the Rock Port Library.

The East Atchison and Rock Port fall sports seasons begin this week. The Lady Blue Jays Volleyball Team will hold a Gatorade Scrimmage on Thursday, August 21, at 6:00 p.m. at Rock Port High School. The Blue Jays Football Team will hold a Gatorade Scrimmage on Friday, August 22, at 6:00 p.m. at Blue Jay Stadium. Please bring Gatorade bottles for entry to both events. The East Atchison Wolves Football Team will host the EA Jamboree Friday, August 22, at 6:00 p.m. The Wolves will host Bishop LeBlond and Nodaway Valley at M. David Palmeiro Stadium in Tarkio. The East Atchison Lady Wolves Volleyball Team will host the EA Jamboree at the TAC at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 26. The Lady Wolves will host Nodaway Valley and Hamburg.

The 70s & 80s Reunion – End of Summer Bash will take place Saturday, August 23, at the Atchison County Memorial Building in Rock Port. Members of the Rock Port High School classes of the 1970s and 1980s are invited to attend a reunion from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. (class pics will be taken at 6:45 p.m.) At 8:00 p.m., the 21-year-old-and-over public (whether you are from Rock Port or not doesn’t matter) is invited to attend a concert of tribute bands Poison Overdose and Motley Crucial. There is a $10 cover charge.

The Graves-Chapple Field Day will be held Tuesday morning, August 26, at the research farm on the outer road near Corning, Missouri. The event will look at the many ways producers use technology to improve farm efficiency.
