The East Atchison Wolves hosted the St. Joseph Christian Lions Friday, September 5. EA kicked off to start the game. St. Joseph moved the ball from their 35-yard line to the Wolves’ 30 yard line before getting a penalty moving them back 5 yards. EA would hold them and take over. The Wolves struggled to get the ball moving and on a 4 down and 6 yards to go, quarterback Brody Wennihan connected with runningback Gavyn Irvine and a go route to go 41-yard for a touchdown. Wennihan would get the two point conversion, making it 8-0 EA. The Lions would answer back adding two touchdowns on the board making the score 8-14. With 2:38 on the clock, the EA offense, with a double handoff would catch the Lions’ defense shifted to give runningback Gavyn Irvine a perfect lane to the endzone to make the score 14-14. Once again, the Lions would answer back, but EA would have enough time to find the end zone with 20 seconds left in the first half, making the score 20 to 20 at halftime.

To start the second half, quarterback Brody Wennihan would connect with end Knox Oswald on two passes, with the second being a 20-yard seam route up the middle for 6 points. Wennihan picked up the 2 point conversion. Following a good defensive stance, quarterback Wennihan went back to the air and connected with running back Irvine on a 15-yard out and up. This would make the score 34-20 EA.

In the third quarter the Lions found the endzone to bring the score to 34-26. East Atchison’s offense would move the ball into the Lions’ red zone but were never able to punch it in. St. Joseph Christian was able to hit pay dirt two more times, bringing the final score to 34-40. This was a tough defensive battle for the Wolves. Tate Johnson finished the night with 15 tackles and Gavyn Irvine had 12.
