East Atchison comes up short against Mound City
The East Atchison Wolves hosted the Mound City Panthers Friday, October 3, at Fairfax for their Fall Homecoming.
East Atchison would put the first points on the board following a big defensive stance holding the Panthers inside the 1 yard line. Runningback Gavyn Irvine was able to move the ball to midfield. On the next play, Brody Wennihan would hit wide-out Parker Livengood on a 40-yard catch and run. Mound City answered back fairly quickly, tying the game at 8. Both teams would battle defensively throughout the first quarter, not allowing any more scoring.
This was about to change as Mound City started the second quarter with a 4th and 10-yard, deep in EA territory. Mound City quarterback Henry Smith would hit Creyton Roup on a quick pass for their third touchdown, making the score 16-8. The Wolves would have a high snap, pinning them deep. This was followed by a fumble, which Mound City recovered resulting in a touchdown, making it 22-8 with 11:11 still to play in the first half. The Wolves continued to fight there way back with a 36-yard run by Gavyn Irvine to bring the score to 22-14 with 9:54 left in the first half. The Panthers would score two more times to extend the lead to 36-14 at the half.
As the Wolves came out of halftime their defense came up big recovering a fumble and setting up runningback Gavyn Irvine, who found the endzone once again in a 26-yard run to bring the score to 36-22 following a two-point conversion. With another strong defensive stance, the Wolves would score their second touchdown after the half with a run by fullback Tate Johnson to bring the score to 36-28.
Mound City wouldn’t score until the fourth quarter making the score 44-28 which would be the final score of the game.
