Heather LeAnn Currie, the daughter of Robert Ray Currie and Deborah Currie Wolken, was born February 21, 1979, in Fairfax, Missouri. Heather graduated with honors from Tarkio High School in 1997.

Heather grew up on the family farm on the outskirts of Tarkio, Missouri. As a youth, she loved riding horses and would compete in barrel racing events throughout the area. A highlight of Heather’s rodeo career was qualifying and competing in the Little Britches National Rodeo Finals in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Heather was a faithful member of the First Christian Church in Tarkio where she was baptized by Pastor James Crapson. She was active in youth activities at the church. Heather continued attending church wherever she lived. Delivering meals to shut-ins was a service she was passionate about.

After graduation from high school, Heather attended the University of Missouri and became an avid Mizzou Tiger football fan. Heather graduated with a degree in Communications in 2001. She was a sorority member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and loved the friendships the sorority provided.

She began a long career in the mortgage lending business. Her work led her from growing up in a small rural community to living in metropolitan cities. She worked for the company in Denver, Seattle, and Nashville. She made many lifelong friends in all of those cities. While living in Denver, she was able to support her beloved Denver Broncos team often attending games.

Eventually Heather chose to return to rural small town life. She lived in Filley, Nebraska, to be close to her mother and family to be able to help. While there, Heather was able to spend much time with her nieces, DeLayne and Justice, and nephews, Allen and Wyatt. Being a loving aunt to her brother John’s children was important to her.

Heather then moved to Savannah, Missouri, where she found her soulmate, Travis Durfey. She and Travis shared a love of horses and rodeo. They loved spending time together whether it was enjoying restaurants in the city or traveling to new destinations. She had a love of her horses, and they enjoyed riding together. She had a collection of geese, ducks, and chickens. Her nephew Bryker was born in 2024, and he often would stay with them. Heather unexpectedly passed away Saturday, October 11, at their home in St. Joseph, Missouri, at the age of 46.

Heather was preceded in death by her father, Robert Ray Currie; grandparents, John and Dorothy Currie and Olen and Mary Sybert; as well as John Sybert, Lloyd Sybert, Donnie Sybert, and Diane Sybert.
