Sorry for the lack of a live stream at the October 15 meeting! The iPad decided it didn’t want to play ball (or function at all). After a few minutes of troubleshooting once the meeting started, we went ahead without the live stream. We’ll get it sorted out and ready to roll for the next meeting. We had great attendance at the meeting with I believe it was 10 or so visitors!
Here’s a quick rundown of what was discussed:
Restore Rock Port – They stopped by to pick up the information and letter they needed to continue demolishing a few unsafe buildings and to help get the library project back on track.
Proclamation for Domestic Violence Awareness Month – We also recognized C.A.R.E. of Atchison County. C.A.R.E. is facing some serious funding cuts, so if that organization has ever touched your life, please consider donating to this critical facility that helps so many in our county.
Firework Permit – A special event permit was granted for a firework to be shot off after a Chiefs football game (Go Chiefs!).
Business Licenses – Two new business licenses were approved: one for Stella Bloom (after some discussion) and another for A10 Home Improvements.
Business License Updates – Going forward, proof of paid taxes will be required when renewing your business license. If your business doesn’t collect sales tax, you’ll need a “no tax needed” letter, which you can get from the State.
MoDOT Ordinance – We passed the ordinance that allows us to install our new speed warning signs along the highway.
City Limits Discussion – We talked about the fact that our City Park isn’t technically within the city limits, and discussed possibly annexing it into town.
Interstate Lighting – We discussed a few options for improving lighting along the interstate area to make it safer and more welcoming for travelers coming through Rock Port.
Thank you all for staying involved and engaged! Every conversation, question, and idea helps move Rock Port forward. Be ready for the next City Council meeting on November 19.We’ll have plenty more to talk about and (fingers crossed) a working live stream this time!
