November 17, 1950

• Showing at the Tarkio Theatre: “Trigger, Jr.” with Roy Rogers, Trigger, Dale Evans, Pat Brady, and Gordon Jones, and “The Black Rose” with Tyrone Power and Orson Welles.

• The City of Tarkio has a brand new fire truck and to help pay for the costly new vehicle and its modern fire-fighting equipment, an “auction” will be held November 29. The attendees will bid on the equipment, “You can buy the headlight, but you can’t take it with you!” The auction is just for fun and for donations.

• Services were held Wednesday in Kansas City for Ed Brewer. Mr. Brewer had been a resident of this community and was employed at the Tarkio Avalanche before he went to Maryville and became associated with the Maryville Forum. He then later moved to Kansas City where he and his son, Envoy Brewer, owned the Brewer Printing Company.

• Neighbors and friends shucked corn at the Jim Mathes farm five miles east and three miles south of Tarkio for Don Kretchmer, who suffered injuries in a tractor accident some time ago that required a leg amputation. With 12 pickers, 46 men shucked 125 acres worth of corn, starting their work before daylight. Dinner was served by women of the Wade extension club and other neighbors and friends.

November 20, 1975

• At the last Parent-Friend meeting of the band, Mr. Ed Roberts, Tarkio High School band director, released a tally of the magazine drive. The junior high sold a total of $3,171.74 worth of magazine subscriptions plus $546 worth of donations totalling $3,717.74. The high school sold $2,402.95 in magazine subscriptions and $908.70 worth of donations making their total $3,311.65. The grand total of both schools is $7,029.39.

• Approximately 180 high school musicians from the Tarkio, Rock Port, and Fairfax high schools will assemble at the Rock Port High School November 24 for the 21st annual County Band Day.

• Ed Redfern, Deputy Director of the Iowa American Revolution Bicentennial Commission and a staff member of Governor Ray, was in Washington, D.C., last week. He left Wednesday for China as an aide for President Ford. Ed is the son of Allie Redfern of Tarkio.

• Maurice Jones, Tarkio Police Officer, has completed the Missouri State Highway Patrol Academy at Jefferson City. The three-week basic police training course has now been completed by the three regular officers, Marshall J.C. Henson, Carl Loveland, and Jones.

November 16, 2000

• Grimm Chiropractic in Tarkio collected 14 turkeys in its holiday special for clients. The turkeys were donated to Community Services in Tarkio.

• Dave’s Convenience in Tarkio has a new and improved coffee station. It has added three cappuccinos to include French vanilla, almond amaretto, and white chocolate caramel.

• Community Hospital Development Council will host a Super-Sitter Training Program at the Tarkio Elementary School for 5th-8th graders in the Tarkio R-I School system November 18 and 19.

• Tarkio Presbyterian Church participated in Operation Christmas Child by packing 31 shoe boxes with toys, personal items, school supplies, and candy for underprivileged children throughout the world.

• Ken Riley is the new Postmaster in town and no stranger to Tarkio. He was a 1977 graduate of Tarkio High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army and then started his career in the United States Postal Service.
