Erika Daugherty, director of the Tarkio Nutrition Center, was the guest speaker at the noon meeting of the Tarkio Rotary Club on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. She explained that the senior center gets money from the Older Americans Act. The money is funneled through the state to the group that oversees the distribution of the money. That group in Northwest Missouri is Young at Heart, headquartered in Cameron, Missouri. According to Daugherty, Young at Heart has not given the centers any money since August. The rest of the state has gotten their money. For some reason, Young At Heart is holding 75% of the money owed to the senior centers and plans to withhold it for several months. The Tarkio Senior Center has been forced to stop providing meals and Meals-on-Wheels on Fridays due to the budget cuts. (Submitted by Anita Sutter)
