• Showing at the Tarkio Theatre: “The Nevadan” with Randolph Scott, “Counter Punch” with Joe Palooka, “Don’t Trust Your Husband” with Fred MacMurray and Madeleine Carroll, “To Please A Lady” with Clark Gable and Barbara Stanwyck, and “She Wore A Yellow Ribbon” with John Wayne, Joanne Dru, John Agar, Ben Johnson, and Harry Carey, Jr.

• Specials at Evans Drug Co. include: Whitman’s candies, $1.70 to $5; Jane Winslow 5 lb. box of chocolates, $2.98; novelty candies, 29¢ to $1.50; and Cara Nome, Evening In Paris, Dessert Flower perfumes and Old Spice cologne.

• The Tarkio College a capella choir will present “The Messiah” by George Frideric Handel Sunday afternoon at the United Presbyterian Church in Tarkio. Prof. Gavin L. Doughty will direct the choir and an orchestra in the 18th annual Christmas vesper program.

December 11, 1975

• Tarkio girls captured the championship of the Mound City Invitational Basketball Tournament. Tarkio defeated Craig 41 to 19, Fairfax 43 to 31, and Rock Port 42 to 37.

• Betty Martin of Tarkio was awarded the first Mrs. Otoe Scouter of the Year. This is the first time is has been awarded to a woman by the Boy Scouts. It was awarded to Mrs. Martin for recognition of her contributions to scouting in Tarkio and the Otoe District.

• A new business has opened in Tarkio catering to all “sound” equipment buyers. Bill Eby has opened the “Sound Shop” at the junctions of Hwy. 136 and 59 in the building with the Texaco station. Craig and Pioneer stereo components and car radios and tape decks are featured. They will handle installations and accessories. They are carrying a top line of stereo records, tapes, and cassettes.

• Lyle Johnson, 29, has been named district manager for Peoples Natural Gas in Tarkio. As Tarkio’s district manager, Johnson also will be responsible for Peoples’ operations in Fairfax and Rock Port.

• The Tarkio R-I School District has purchased a trailer for the handicapped after originally renting one from Rock Port last year. The trailer is provided for six handicapped children from Tarkio and Rock Port areas. Teaching the class, consisting of children ages 5 to 14, is Donna Patterson, who is aided by Marlene Sheldon.

December 7, 2000

• The Farmers City 4-H Club met December 3 to make ornaments for Tarkio’s Christmas tree which is located on Main Street. Members helping were Sarah Brought, Denise McEnaney, Michelle Sharp, John Long, Abby Athen, Courtney Fischer, Zachary Klute, Stephanie Sharp, Madison Fischer, Kevin Lang, Leasa Hicks, Lyndsey Jones, Dallas Hurst, Lindsey Hicks, Taylor Hurst, Zachary Fischer, Rachel McEnaney, and Maria Brought.

• The Tarkio Post Office received two long life vehicles (LLVs) from the Kansas City, Missouri, office. The new LLVs are more convenient because they have a larger holding capacity and will be used on the two city routes, replacing the jeeps the post office used in the past.

• The William White Chapter, DAR, sponsored the annual Good Citizens Award for seniors in Atchison and Holt counties. Recipients this year are: Kara Kemerling, Fairfax; Ashely Poptanycz, Tarkio; and Nicole Evans, Rock Port. Holt County recipients are: Michelle Russell, Mound City; Adam Showalter, Craig; and Bobi Bender, Oregon.
