Orville Loraine Chastain passed away at the age of 79 on December 27, 2025, in Mound City, Missouri. He was born on September 15, 1946, in Rock Port, Missouri, to Allen and Hattie Mae (Patton) Chastain.

Loraine graduated from Rock Port High School in 1964. He began working for the Rock Port School District in 1970, where he served in many roles over the years, including bus driver, janitor, and bus manager, ultimately retiring in 1999 as the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds. One of Loraine’s greatest joys was driving the Rock Port Blue Jays to and from football, basketball, and wrestling events, as well as senior trips. He was beloved by students and faculty alike.

During the 1980s and 1990s, Loraine also managed the Paramount Movie Theater in Rock Port

An avid outdoorsman, Loraine found his greatest peace in the timber, where he spent countless hours hunting and fishing. He loved western books and was an avid reader. Loraine took great pride in watching his children and grandchildren participate in sporting events and was a loyal fan of the Royals and the Chiefs – and of course, “once a Blue Jay, always a Blue Jay.” Known for his honesty, kindness, and tireless work ethic, Loraine was deeply loved and respected by all who knew him.

On June 27, 1980, Loraine married Cheryl Volker. They made their home in Rock Port for many years, moving to their farm outside Fairfax, Missouri, in 2005. Together, they raised five children: Lisa (Jay) Erdman of Cameron, Missouri; Shelly (Rick) Toneske of Freehold, New Jersey; Aimee (Greg) Cluck of Highland, Kansas; Jeremy (Tiffany) Lewis of Mound City; and Jill (Ryan) Kingery of Fairfax.

In 2016, Loraine was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, a long and courageous battle that he faced with quiet strength.

Loraine is survived by his wife and children; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Raymond (Shannon) Chastain, Kathy (Cleon) Tetrick, and Rosie Moore, all of Rock Port; his aunt, Rosalie McConnell of Auburn, Nebraska; sisters-in-law, Linda Blakemore of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Janet Volker of St. Joseph, Missouri; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Hattie Mae (Patton) Chastain; his parents-in-law, Ken and Darlene Volker; and his brother-in-law, Frank Blakemore.
