Happy 2026 everyone! Did you make any new year’s resolutions? I always do, and I do not attempt to achieve my resolutions alone. I have blessed assurance that my heavenly Father and I will navigate the new year together. New year, new resolutions, same great God!
Origins. Resolutions are entrenched in pagan roots, originating 4,000 years ago with the ancient Babylonians. The Babs promised their gods (like Ishtar, Nabu, and Marduk) that they would return borrowed items and pay off debts in order to receive divine favor in the new year.
Quitter or Go Getter? According to surveys, top resolutions include lose weight, exercise, improve finances, eat healthier, and break bad habits. Statistics show only 9-25% of resolution makers are successful, with many quitting in the first month. There’s a symbolic day to honor the slouchers: Quitter’s Day is the second Friday in January.
Solutions. Experts offer these tips for resolution success: make small changes, focus on habits, monitor progress, and be realistic. Finding support, adjusting your goals, and celebrating progress can prevent you from joining the lowly Quitters Club.
RISE and Shine! To successfully achieve your 2026 resolutions, apply RISE: Resolve to commit, get Involved, Solve obstacles, Evolve into a new you. Resolve, Involve, Solve, Evolve. RISE and shine!
