February 16, 1951
• The public is invited to be the guest of the American Legion at the Memorial Building Monday evening, February 19, to watch the screening of the 1950 World Series baseball games.
• Evan Sutter, who closed out the dairy herd and some of his farming equipment Wednesday of last week, sold his top cow for $310. His cows are of good stock and fine milk producers and the public, being aware of that fact, was willing to pay good prices for his offering.
• The annual Rock Port Firemen’s Ball will be held at the Memorial Building next week. It’s the one time in the year when Rock Port citizens have an opportunity to help the firemen financially, as they do not make “drives” or “solicitations.”
• Danny LaHue and his father, Blu LaHue, saw a herd of 16 deer down on the bottom, near the LaHue home. There have been numerous reports of herds sited, but this is the largest number ever to be reported in some years in Atchison County.
February 19, 1976
• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “Old Dracula,” “War Wagon” with John Wayne and Kirk Douglas, and “The Greatest Waldo Pepper.”
• Blaine Cook, Atchison County Farm Bureau insurance agent, was presented a plaque in recognition of his achieving membership in the Missouri Farm Bureau Insurance Companies’ Half-Million Dollar Club. Cook was one of 23 agents throughout the state to win a place in the club this year.
• The Donald A. Fox estate land sold at public auction for $81,090 or $901 per acre for 90 acres to Cecil McCoy, Rock Port. The land is located east and south of Burke’s Lumberyard.
• Greg Chamberlain with the Rock Port City Police Department brought a display of marijuana and paraphernalia, picked up from adults and teenagers in the area the past few months, to the Rock Port City Council meeting. He is hoping the council will create a city ordinance to make possession a punishable offense in city court.
February 15, 2001
• The Rock Port High School National Honor Society Chapter recently selected its Citizenship Award recipients. They are: freshmen – Brenda and Vicki Thompson; sophomores – Stephanie Shandy and Trent Shineman; junior – Melissa Herron; and seniors – Andy Bremer and Jason Leseberg.
• Jade Sybert, Rock Port, was recently selected as “Sudent of the Quarter” for the Auto Collision Technology Program at Southeast Community College – Milford campus.
• Prices are going up everywhere, but Rock Port was among 19 Missouri cities enjoying some of the lowest-cost wholesale electricity in the state last year. The city’s municipal utility worked with the other 18 cities to launch the Missouri Public Energy Pool and pooled their resources to identify the cheapest available power and take advantage of larger volume purchasing.
• Rock Port High School sophomore Cory Stanton advanced to state wrestling with a 27-6 record.
