Joyce Rosella Schilling, 89, passed away March 24, 2026, in Shenandoah, Iowa.
Joyce was born July 17, 1936, at home near Mansfield, Missouri, to James Caston Henson and Maude Eliza (Lewis) Henson. She began her education at a small country school in Douglas County, Missouri. She then attended and graduated from high school in Tarkio, Missouri, in 1954. Joyce was united in marriage to Ronald Dean Schilling on April 25, 1959, in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Tarkio and they were married for 65 years.
Ron was born March 1, 1939, on the family farm near Elwood, Nebraska, to Henry and Lois (Kolb) Schilling. Ron grew up on the family farm, attending country school and continued through high school in Elwood, Nebraska, graduating in 1956. Ron was baptized January 6, 1952, in symbol of his dedication to Jehovah God.
In 1964, Ron and Joyce moved from Tarkio to the Elwood, Nebraska, family farm. They attended the Lexington, Nebraska, Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses which later merged with Holdrege, Nebraska. Ron served as an elder for many years.
Ron and Joyce moved back to Tarkio in 2013. In 2023, they moved to Homestead Assisted Living in Shenandoah, Iowa. Ron passed away September 27, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lee; a sister, Nancy Schroeder; and in 2025 his brother, Jim.
Joyce was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1947. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron; and her sisters, Elsie Samuel in 1984 and Annabell Bauer in 2010. Survivors include three nieces, Roberta Peregrine, Ramona and Jerry Hertzell, Greensboro, North Carolina, and Rebecca and Scott Whitehill, Roanoke, Virginia; a nephew, Steve Schilling, Kansas City, Missouri, and other nieces and nephews.
Joyce and Ron valued their association with the Christian Congregation at the Kingdom Hall in Missouri, Nebraska and Shenandoah. They loved sharing their faith with others.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dolores and Phil Robbins, Dennis and Rita Akers, Carol Dinges, and the entire congregation that have been so supportive throughout their loss. There will be no memorial service.
