• In celebration of the birthday of Florence Nightingale and the National Hospital Day, Community Hospital will hold an open house Saturday, May 12. Tours will be given and guests will be shown rooms such as the laboratory, surgery, and x-ray.
• Mr. and Mrs. R.W. Holt of Kansas City have started excavation for a new residence on their farm east of Fairfax on Highway 46. The new house is to be almost directly across the highway north of the W.F. Thiesfeld place.
• Thirty young women students of the Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville were hurt, 20 of them hospitalized and four critically injured in an unexplained explosion of a natural gas storage tank located 100 feet east of Residence Hall, women’s dormitory, after midnight Saturday morning. One Fairfax girl was among those hospitalized. The blast did major damage to railroad cars and businesses nearby, and the flash is reported to have been seen as far as 70 miles away.
• The Board of Directors of Daleview Consolidated School District will offer for sale at public auction six of the buildings formerly used as grade schools, including: Mount Salem, West Point, Spring Valley, South Center, Walkup’s Grove, and Mount Hope.
• Up until mid-morning Tuesday, rain has been almost an hourly occurrence in this section for about two weeks. The southbound Burlington train has not been able to make its complete trip to Corning for several days due to high water around Milton. A few highways in northwest Missouri have been closed at different times due to water over the roadways.
• Pearce Produce and Hatchery has 12,500 baby chicks on hand.
• Wednesday morning the Fairfax ag boys broke their good record for no serious injuries with power tools this year when Kenneth Swinehart and Russell Hughes both lost parts of fingers. Kenneth lost the first joint of his second finger on the right hand while operating a power planer in the ag shop. Just ten minutes later, Russell cut off a large piece of flesh and part of the nail of his thumb while using the same piece of equipment.

• Fifteen members of the Fairfax Community Garden Club attended the 43rd annual convention of Federated Garden Clubs of Missouri April 28-30 in St. Joseph. Congressman Jerry Litton was the guest speaker. Other prominent guests were Mrs. William J. Hedley, first vice president of the National Council of State Garden Clubs, and Mrs. Jack Blome of Dayton Ohio, flower arranging expert.
• Sundaes are on sale for 25¢ and 35¢ at the Dairy Diner in Fairfax May 6 and 7.
• Impressive services were held at the Fairfax Baptist Church Sunday, May 2, for the graduating Baptist seniors of the Fairfax High School Class of 1976. Honorees included Rhonda Johnson, Debra Moses, Gary Hargus, Randy Jones, and Michael Harrington.

• The Fairfax High School Class of 1951 will be honored at the 2001 Fairfax Alumni Banquet Friday, May 18.
• Fairfax students won an Easter coloring contest held at Pizza Hut in Tarkio. They are Heather BeBout, TJ Massaro, Cheyenne Heard, Bryceton England, Tauni Thompson, Whitney Harrington, and Kelsey Sly.
• Amber Lewis harvested a 15-pound turkey on the first youth turkey hunting day while accompanied by her father, Mike Lewis, and Jeff Freeman.
