• In accordance with the law, the county court considered proposals from banks who wished to be depositories for the county’s funds for the next two years. The five banks in the county designated depositories by the court are: Bank of Atchison County at Rock Port getting the major portion of the funds, $175,000; and the Exchange Bank of Fairfax, Citizens Bank of Atchison County at Rock Port, and First National Bank and Farmers & Valley Bank at Tarkio each getting $50,000.
• Thirty-one members of the 1951 Fairfax High School senior class were awarded diplomas at the 56th annual commencement held in the school auditorium Wednesday. Guy V. Keeler, Director of the Bureau of Lectures and Concerts of the University of Kansas, delivered the commencement address.
• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “Winchester 73” starring James Stewart, Dan Duryea, and Shelley Winters, “Right Cross” with June Allyson, Dick Powell, and Ricardo Montalban, and “The Traveling Saleswoman” with Joan Davis and Andy Devine.
May 13, 1976
• Beri Wennihan and Rick Hansen were crowned Queen and King of the 1976 Fairfax High School Junior-Senior Prom May 7. Both are seniors this year.
• Mrs. Earl Brindle of Fairfax was severely injured in a mowing accident May 6. She lost her thumb, index finger, and middle finger on her right hand, half of her thumb on her left hand, numerous other severe cuts and abrasions, and a fractured left leg. Dozens of friends and neighbors gathered at the Brindles’ farm Monday morning and planted 215 acres of corn. Some volunteers mowed, swept out machine sheds, and planted tomatoes.
• Fairfax High School senior class wills: Mark Adams wills his clean driving record to Chris Bradfield. Glen Arnold wills his very own rice patty to Terry Kemerling. Ricky Hansen wills his side burns to Richard Payton.

• The Community Hospital Auxiliary ladies held a bake and craft sale. The auxilians’ baking, cooking, and crafting earned them $1,322 for the day’s event, which also included a quilt giveaway.
• The Board of Directors of Community Hospital Association, Inc., of Fairfax and Nebraska Health System in Omaha, Nebraska, have finalized an agreement for NHS to affiliate with CHA. Nebraska Health System is the primary teaching facility for the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
• The 82nd annual Fairfax Alumni Initiation and Banquet will be held the week of Monday, May 14, through Friday, May 18. This year’s theme is “Comedy Time” with alumni having to say the phrase “Who wants to be an alumni?” and the initiates will respond with “We do and that is our final answer!”
• The Atchison County Piecemakers Quilt Guild will hold its first annual quilt show Friday and Saturday, May 11 and 12. Categories will include antique/appliqued, hand quilted/machine quilted, and baby quilts/open miscellaneous. Attendees will vote on their choice of winners.
• The unusual Lazuli Bunting bird returned to the home of Wilbur and Evonne Wright of Fairfax for the sixth year during the first week of May.
