• Showing at the Tarkio Theatre: “Indian Territory,” “Meet John Doe” with Gary Cooper, “Kim” with Errol Flynn, Dean Stockwell, Paul Lukas, and Robert Douglas, and “The Pretty Girl” with Robert Cummings and Joan Caulfield.
• Dr. Clyde H. Canfield, pastor of the First United Presbyterian Church of Denver, Colorado, was elected the fifth president of Tarkio College. Dr. Canfield succeeds Dr. M. Earle Collins, who accepted the presidency at Missouri Valley College in Marshall in January.
• Five members of the golden anniversary class of 1901 were able to be present for special recognition at commencement exercises on the Tarkio College campus. They were: Miss Bertha Williamson, Des Moines, Iowa; John A. McArthur, Boonville; Miss Alda Atchison, Los Angeles, California; Mrs. J.R. (Esther Davis) Jenison and Mrs. Arthur (Varene Shearer) Low, both of Tarkio. That particular class was not able to participate in commencement exercises, as a smallpox epidemic in 1901 prevented the event from taking place.

• The weather cleared Sunday morning long enough for another successful fly-in breakfast at the Tarkio Airport. There were 44 pilots and planes and 88 passengers in attendance along with 349 people who drove to the event. Chuck Hanna gave rides in his red, white, and blue open cockpit plane. At the event, Chuck was presented with a painting of his plane made by Des Moines, Iowa, artist Jim Stevenson.
• Specials at U Save Mart in Tarkio include: 7 ounce “Ticks Off” spray for 78¢; 24”x36” vinyl Surf Rider air mattress for 88¢; Close-up toothpaste for 59¢; Sudden Tan 4 ounce lotion and 3.75 ounce size foam for $1.97; and 8 exposures Polacolor II 108 film for $4.56.
• The Walnut Hill Art Fair will be held in Tarkio Saturday, June 5, at the North City Park, Third and Broad streets. Special exhibits will include Collectors Traveling Gallery, a showing of paintings, lithographs, and bronze sculptures by outstanding contemporary artists.
• Harry Wright, President of H.H. Wright Motor Company in Tarkio, and Keith Egbert, service manager, accepted Ford Motor Company’s highest award for customer service – the Distinguished Service Citation.

• Ashely Poptanycz set a new state shot put record Friday, May 18. Ashely’s first attempt recorded a distance of 40’1.5”, which netted the first place gold medal and a new state record.
• Toni Jones, resident at Northview Manor in Tarkio, was voted Ms. Northview Manor 2001 by her peers, staff members, family, and friends during National Nursing Home Week. Toni now has the opportunity to represent the local facility in the District II Ms. Nursing Home Pageant.
• A new business is opening in Tarkio. Midwest Wildlife Creations will celebrate its grand opening Friday, June 1, at 318 Main Street. Midwest Wildlife Creations, owned by Dean and Shannon Ratliff, will offer a taxidermy service as well as a video store.
