The Tarkio/Westboro/Fairfax, MO, Food Pantry Board met Tuesday, May 12, 2026. Present were representatives from the: Fairfax – Baptist, Christian, Methodist, and Presbyterian churches; Tarkio – Christian, Church of God, Good News Church, Presbyterian, and St. Paul the Apostle Catholic churches; and Westboro – St. John’s Lutheran.
The meeting opened with a prayer and Nan Stepp presided over the meeting. The minutes were read. Anita Sutter presented the treasurer’s report, which was approved.
Anita was able to straighten out the issues with Farmers State Bank in regards to deposits for the food pantry being deposited in different accounts. We are reminded to ask for a receipt if making a deposit for the food pantry.
Judy Henson reported on the health inspector’s report. He noted the following: 1) The donated pork from the FFA could not be used as it had no label and would not have been USDA inspected. We were able to distribute what we already had. Judy has notified Dustin Lambertsen. 2) The chicken nuggets can’t be broken down, but must be kept in the original packaging. 3) Corn dogs and Hot Pockets can be distributed as we have been doing as they do have the original labels on them.
Judy reported that in March, 45 families were served, representing 103 individuals. In April, 51 families were served, representing 133 individuals. Judy asked that volunteers be at the pantry by 8:30 a.m for the first Tuesday it is open. We are to try to have six volunteers on the first day of opening the pantry, five for the Tuesday evening and four helpers the remaining days.
Tarkio Baptist opens the pantry in May. Fairfax Presbyterian will staff the pantry in June. The next board meeting will be July 14, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.
The meeting was adjourned.
The food pantry is currently low on the following items: apple juice (64 oz.), complete pancake mix, syrup (64 oz.), cake mixes (chocolate or white), Chicken Helper, tomatoes (diced, diced chili ready, tomato sauce, rotel), chili style beans, ground beef (1 lb. pkg.), and dish soap.
The food pantry is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. the third and fourth weeks of each month. The pantry is also open the third Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
