In late April and early May, Community Hospital-Fairfax (CH-F) hosted area first graders for the 2026 Mary Combs Memorial Pediatric Orientations. Sixty first grade students from four area schools received an inside look at the hospital while learning about healthcare careers, medical technology, and discussing what it would be like to be a pediatric patient at CH-F.
Students took an in-depth tour of the hospital and then visited a patient room to roleplay what an inpatient visit would be like at CH-F, complete with visits from nursing, laboratory, and radiology.
At the end of their day, the students enjoyed popsicles outside and were given gift bags with coloring books, crayons, stickers, and hospital supplies to pretend at home.
