Blue Jays win second consecutive district baseball title
The Rock Port Blue Jays took home their second consecutive district baseball title following a dominant 19-0 display during district play. The Blue Jays entered the tournament on Tuesday, May 19, against the North Andrew Cardinals and handled business with a 12-0 shutout.
Rylan Hunter and Jadyn Geib shared pitching duties, racking up a combined 11 strikeouts. Geib also had a good day at the plate, knocking in three runs.
Rock Port faced off against the Knights of South Holt on Wednesday, May 20, for the district championship.
Junior Case Millsap took the mound to begin the game and didn’t look back. He pitched all seven innings on his way to shutting the Knights down in the 7-0 victory. A strong team performance at the plate helped see the Blue Jays win back-to-back district championships.
Jays win sectional game, advance to quarterfinals
The Rock Port Blue Jays advanced through sectionals with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the Albany Warriors on Monday, May 25. The sectional game was hosted in Rock Port and sophomore Rylan Hunter started the competition on the mound for the Blue Jays. After dealing over five innings of shutout baseball, Hunter was relieved by Westyn Amthor.
In the bottom half of the fifth inning, the Blue Jays batted in three runs. Case Millsap, Jadyn Geib and Amthor were the clutch hitters on the day, each knocking in one run.
Albany made a final attempt at snatching the game away, scoring two runs in the top of the seventh. However, Amthor managed to close the game out on the hill. The Blue Jays’ defense, clutch hitting and solid starting pitching performance helped pull them through in the 3-2 victory.
Rock Port will face the Northland Christian Trailblazers on Wednesday, May 27, in the State Quarterfinal in Kansas City.
