A higher levee was constructed in response to the numerous floods that have covered the track and football field at Blue Jay Stadium over the years. Several trees were cut down along the creek as well.

The third corner of the Rock Port track faced some of the worst surface peeling.

Work on a new fence and concession stand at Blue Jay Stadium is underway.

After the walk bridge was completely covered by the floodwaters, a state-licensed inspector recommended it for closure.

The flood left debris strewn across the walk bridge that crosses Rock Creek.

Rock Port High School will be scraping and resurfacing the track following several days of flooding in May that left debris and peeled the surface. There is no planned start date for the project; however, it should be completed in time for next year’s track season.

In addition to the resurfacing, a new concession stand is being constructed at Blue Jay Stadium. It will stretch between the old concession stand and bathroom facilities south of the bleachers.

Another noteworthy structure in Rock Port that was affected by the flooding was the walk bridge, located on the west end of the Rock Port City Park. Following an inspection by a state-licensed inspector, the walk bridge has been recommended for closure due to structural concerns. The issues identified involve not only portions of the wood decking and supports, but also areas where the wood and metal components of the bridge connect.

According to a release from the City of Rock Port, this bridge is much more than a structure. “For many residents, it is a daily walking route, a connection to our park, and a part of countless memories made over the years. Because of its importance to our community, this matter will be placed on the upcoming City Council agenda for discussion and consideration,” the release said.
