Glenn Derrossett, living on the Gebhards place south of Rock Port, found a bomb in his field the other day which gave evidence of having been on the ground for some time, as it was badly rusted. The missile was about 14 inches long and 3 1/2 inches thick. It has a sort of propeller tail piece. It has been on display in The Mail window this week. It was a “dead” bomb when found and was probably used for practice purposes, as it was intact, showing that no explosives were in it when dropped, probably from some passing plane.

Bob Underwood brought to The Mail office Monday morning half a dozen ears of the largest corn thus shown this fall. It was raised by Emmett Block of the Langdon neighborhood and is of the open pollinated variety. Corn of  this quality should be entered in Melvin Bros. corn show, which ends December 4.

November 7 , 1968

Rep. Hardin C. Cox, Rock Port, won his third two-year term to the Missouri House of Representatives defeating John C. Callow, Oregon, as representative of Atchison, HolT and Andrew counties by a 1,530 vote margin. Cox polled 6,470 votes and Callow 4,940.

The planning commission will meet Friday, November 15, on a request for a new sub-division to the City of Rock Port requested at the city council meeting Tuesday by Burke & Sons Lumber Co. The new sub-division to be located east of Water St., in the south end of town would have a new street coming off of Water Street going southeast with a cul-de-sac at the east end. Burke plans for a four unit apartment plus lots for eight houses in the area.

November 4, 1993

The Blue Jay Cross Country team has competed well this year and competed in meets which put them up against tough competition. At Districts last Saturday, October 30, at Liberty, Mo., the weather was a cold 28 degrees with wind chills of 5-8 degrees from winds gusting up to 25 mph. The Jays had six runners qualify for State. Those who placed were: Amy Arthaud 3rd, Jill Lewis 6th, Bobbi Arthaud 12th and Angela Deatz 18th. Boys placing were: Jamie Thomas 7th, Ryan Cook 10th.

The Rock Port Volleyball team traveled to Liberty October 30 for the Class 1A Sectional 4 tournament. The Blue Jays qualified for the Final Four by defeating the Cass Midway Vikings 15-13 and 15-7 and the Rich Hill Tigers 15-9 and 15-12.
