• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “Wyoming Mail,” “Call Me Mister” with Betty Grable and Dan Dailey, and “The Jackpot” starring James Stewart and Barbara Hale.
• The Irish Grove grade school will open Monday, August 27. Miss Ruth L. Sahlin of Oregon has been employed to teach the upper grades and Miss Suzian Raiser of Craig will teach the first four grades. Mrs. Will Tolby will again have charge of the lunch room.
• Some time between 8:50 Saturday night and 10 o’clock Sunday morning, the vault in the office of the Fairfax Community Hospital was opened and cash and checks totaling $1,059.58 were stolen. The thief must have either by luck or having some information that has not been explained, worked out the combination of the vault and opened the door.
• School supply sales at Polly’s: tablets, 5-25¢; Crayolas, 10-65¢; pencils, 2 for 5¢; pencil boxes, 20-50¢; zipper notebook backs, 2 and 3 ring, $1-5; and fountain pens, 25¢-$1.50.

• Mel Rogers, Dean of Students at Tarkio College, was the guest speaker at the Tuesday noon luncheon of the Kiwanis Club. Rogers told members of his early days of coaching, part of which was spent with the Kansas City Chiefs. He came to Tarkio as a coach and after 25 years of coaching, he accepted the post of Dean of Students and regards it as the most challenging of his career.
• The Fairfax Forum has made arrangements with Woltz Studio to photograph area children at no charge Friday, August 20, at Fairfax City Hall. All children’s photos will appear in the Forum.
• Fairfax R-3 will begin the new school year on August 25. New school district employees are: Steve Bonagurio – P.E., coach, and driver’s training; Steve Kellepouris – music; Terri Weichinger – home ec; Linda Owens – kindergarten; and Merle Barr – bus driver.

• Nancy Gaines and Dolores Hawkins of Fairfax were chosen by the Fairfax Optimist Club as Parade Grand Marshals for the 2001 Fairfax Fair Parade Saturday, August 18. Nancy was a merchant in Fairfax for 25 years, owning both a hardware store and the local newspaper. Dolores is active in volunteer work at Community Hospital and was Auxilian of the Year in 2000. She was also chosen in memory of her husband, Glen, who was a charter member of the Fairfax Optimist Club.
• Aleesha Ball was named Little Miss Fairfax and Spencer Gibson was named Little Mr. Fairfax on Friday evening, August 17, at the Fairfax Fair. Shelby Zirfas was named Junior Miss Fairfax and Katy Hunter was crowned Miss Fairfax.
• Three Fairfax residents will be celebrating their 90th birthdays this month. Waldo Thomson will be turning 90 on Monday, August 20. Gladys Farley will be celebrating her 90th on August 28 and Thalia Beck will be turning 90 on August 30.
• Trudy and Ron Baker are pleased to announce the birth of their baby girl, Katherine Eva Baker. Katie was born at Heartland East Hospital in St. Joseph weighing six pounds and 15 ounces on July 27.
• Fairfax Troop 73 painted the Boy Scout cabin on Saturday, August 11. The City of Fairfax provided the paint and brushes while the Scouts and leaders did the work.
