• Rock Port’s schools got off to a good start on a new term Monday with a half-day session held that day. The high school enrollment shows a total of 158. Of that number, more than half are non-residents – divided 69 resident pupils and 89 non-residents. The sophomore class has a record enrollment of 55 pupils.
• Grant Poppa has brought to The Mail office an ear of Kyzer corn of good quality and size. He says he has 32 acres of this corn, which was planted the first week in May. Mr. Poppa is the first farmer to submit a sample of his corn this fall.
• Several Rock Port businesses have furnished benches for the several greens at the city’s golf course so that golfers can rest at the various stopping places and watch their fellow turf-diggers make their initial drives. The benches are of sturdy construction, with the names of the donating firms etched on them.
September 9, 1976
• The Marching Jays will give the home crowd their first view of the new band uniforms September 10th against Tarkio. The royal blue uniform features a white overlay, the words Rock Port are lettered across the front with a Blue Jay emblem on the back, and the ensemble is topped off with a tall white fur hat. Besides half-time shows, the band will take part in the Oregon Fall Festival Parade and the Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville.
• Missouri’s big rivers are coming closer to its outdoor loving citizens. The Department of Conservation access total now is 115 with the addition of Hoot Owl Bend and the Langdon Bend accesses southwest of Rock Port and the Watson access northwest.
• Paramount Theatre in Rock Port opened September 2nd after a two-month summer vacation with a new false-brick front on the building, a new coat of paint on the theatre walls, and a new seat cover on many of the theatre chairs. Orville Muntz, owner, said that the movies to be shown this fall will be current movies, many to be shown in Rock Port about the same times they are being shown in Omaha.

• The parents of Kristi Kelsall and Corey Herron are pleased to announce their engagement and upcoming marriage. Kristi is a graduate of Trenton High School and Missouri Western State College. Corey is a graduate of Rock Port High School and University of Missouri School of Law. The couple plan to marry November 24 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Westboro.
• Rock Port Rotary Club recently participated in the Shoes for Orphan Souls project, which will send shoes to needy children living in orphanages in Russia and Romania later this fall. The 49 Rotary Clubs in Missouri’s Rotary District 6040 collected 7,200 pairs of shoes and over $6,000 in cash (their goal had been 2,600 pairs).
• The new minister at Rock Port First Lutheran Church is Pastor Bill Terry. He and his wife, Judy, came to Rock Port from Stuttgart, Kansas. Besides leading the church parishioners during the worship service each week, Pastor Terry plans to offer Christian education classes for children through adults.
• Over 200 people attended the Graves Farm Field Day Tuesday, August 28. New this year was the newly constructed Pesticide Containment Facility and Linear Irrigation System.
