The Atchison County Sheriff’s Office is stepping up big time to keep our communities and residents safe:

Rick Farber and Kathryn Johnson

On August 31, 2026, the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office and the Tarkio Police Department were dispatched to a shots fired call in Tarkio, Missouri. Two suspects were safely taken into custody. After investigating, a probable cause statement was submitted to the Atchison County Prosecutor’s Office by the Tarkio Police Department. This resulted in a warrant being issued by the Atchison County Circuit Court for Rick Farber of Tarkio. The warrant was issued on charges of Armed Criminal Action, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Methamphetamine. Mr. Farber was held on a $25,000.00 bond.

A second probable cause statement was submitted to the Atchison County Prosecutor’s Office by the Tarkio Police Department,  resulting in a warrant being issued by the Atchison County Circuit Court for Kathryn Johnson of Tarkio. The warrant was issued on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Methamphetamine. Ms. Johnson was held on a $7,500.00 bond.

Austin Baruth

In August, the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office was referred a sexual offense case by the Tarkio Police Department. After investigating, a probable cause statement was submitted to the Atchison County Prosecutor’s Office. This resulted in a warrant being issued by the Atchison County Circuit Court for Austin Baruth of Tarkio. The warrant was issued on charges of Attempted Rape – 2nd Degree and Rape – 2nd Degree. Mr. Baruth is being held with no bond at this time.

Robert Prestyly

On August 16, 2026, the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of Harassment. After investigating and multiple search warrants, a probable cause statement was submitted to the Atchison County Prosecutor’s Office. This resulted in a warrant being issued by the Atchison County Circuit Court for Robert Prestyly of Tarkio, Missouri. The warrant was issued on charges of Harassment 1st Degree and Possession of Child Pornography. On September 6, 2026, Mr. Prestyly was taken into custody without incident by the Franklin County, Nebraska, Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Prestyly is being held with no bond at this time.

Andrew Zingre

On September 5, 2026, the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a motorcycle failing to yield to Fremont County, Iowa, deputies. The motorcycle was southbound on I-29 travelling in excess of 100 miles per hour. A deputy with the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office took over the pursuit as it entered Missouri. The motorcycle eventually came to a stop near the 108 mile marker and one suspect was safely taken into custody. A probable cause statement was submitted to the Atchison County Prosecutor’s Office. This resulted in a warrant being issued by the Atchison County Circuit Court for Andrew Zingre of Kansas City, Missouri. The warrant was issued on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Resisting Arrest, Speeding, Careless and Imprudent Driving, and Driving While Suspended/Revoked. The Missouri State Highway Patrol and Fremont County Iowa Sheriff’s Office assisted. Mr. Zingre is being held with a bond of $12,000.00 at this time.
