• At the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “Arizona Cowboy” starring Rex Allen, “Counter Spy Meets Scotland Yard” with Howard St. John, “Double Cross Bones” with Donald O’Connor and Helena Carter, “Prehistoric Women,” “Two Lost Worlds,” and “Shepherd Of The Ozarks” plus a talent show.
• An ancient well, the presence of which has been undisclosed for a number of decades, caved in with two-year-old Terry Lee Reberry Thursday of last week on the Pete Underwood farm north of Rock Port, sometimes referred to as the Turkey Farm or the old Klump homestead. Terry was playing in the yard when he disappeared down a 15 foot well. Fortunately, there was no water in it. After a ladder was fetched from a neighbor, Terry’s father climbed down and carried him up, where it was discovered he only had minor bruises and scratches.
• George Jay, prominent Shenandoah, Iowa, druggist, died Wednesday morning about 1:30. He operated one of the outstanding drug stores in the Middle West.
September 16, 1976
• The Tarkio Indians traveled to Rock Port last week and the Blue Jays lost the football contest 8 to 42. The Jays fumbled on the opening kickoff, which the Indians recovered and four plays later the Indians scored, never slowing down after that.
• At the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “Cannonball” with David Carradine and “Eat My Dust.”
• A blood drive in Rock Port resulted in 55 pints of blood being donated to the Community Blood Center of the Greater Kansas City area.
• Gordon Clifton, Circuit Clerk and Recorder of Deeds at he courthouse in Rock Port, reported marriage licenses of 27 couples were returned to the office the past several weeks.
• A cool, pleasant day greeted 4-Hers and FFA members as they showed their livestock at the Atchison County Fair in the Rock Port City Park September 9. Seventy-two young cattle were shown in the beef division. There were 21 entries in the swine division and the sheep entries numbered nine.

• The Kenny and Paula Herron home was selected as Yard of the Month. From the foundation plantings to the corners of the lot, color is everywhere. The butterfly houses, rail fence, pump and bird bath all add a personalized touch.
• The Rock Port kindergarten class took their first field trip. They traveled to Omaha, Nebraska, and visited Henry Doorly Zoo.
• Katy and Virgil Watts of Rock Port will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary September 21. They were married on the date in 1941.
• Amanda Gray, Rock Port High school’s lone cross country runner and a freshman, finished 1st in the St. Mary’s Invitational in Liberty, Missouri, and the Clarinda Invitational in Clarinda, Iowa. In the St. Mary’s race, she ran the 1.4 mile course in 9:08 seconds and in the Clarinda event she ran the 2.1 miles in 14:08 seconds.
