• Atchison County blood donors turned out Friday, September 14, at the Memorial Building in Rock Port to give 92 pints of blood to top the county quota of 70 pints.
• Specials at Lee Pemberton & Sons Hy-Klas Food Store include: Folgers coffee, 79¢ per pound; Armour’s link sausage, 65¢ per pound; Grade A Hy-Klas pasteurized milk, 15¢ per quart; Golden Crust bread, 2 loaves for 25¢; large 18 ounce white cake, 39¢; and Valu colored and quarter oleo, 49¢ for 2 pounds.

• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “Eat My Dust” with Ron Howard and “The Bad News Bears” with Walter Matthau.
• Rock Port Marching Band traveled to Oregon, Missouri, September 11 to compete in the Oregon Fall Festival Parade. The two-hour parade had every float you could imagine and four bands. The Rock Port band placed first.
• Members of the Amalgamated Meatcutters and Butchers Union, local 576, went back to work Tuesday morning after a five-month strike at the MBPXL Corp. plant in Phelps City. The strike began April 2 with around 450 strikers and ended almost two weeks after union members voted to accept terms for a contract renewal offered by MBPXL Corp.
• The closing of the footbridge at the Rock Port City Park has generated a lot of complaints. The city council decided to have the bridge closed because its stringers and floor planks were seriously deteriorated. The plan is for the bridge to be reopened once money can be raised for repairs.
• Because of a large first grade enrollment of 65 students at Rock Port Elementary, the class was split up into three different classrooms. Mrs. Deanna Whitford, Mrs. Elaine Krieger, and Mrs. Janet Griffin are the teachers.

• The Rock Port Optimists donated 10 sleeping bags to the local Boy Scouts. Winners of the bags were Camden Pankau, Aaron Metzgar, Zack Pankau, Adam Metzgar, Bryan Evans, James Hogle, A.J. Hale, James Neemann, Berry Saunders, and Keenan Cohn.
• McDonald’s advertised 99¢ McRib Jr., McChicken, Mac Jr., and Hot’n Spicy McChicken.
• New National Honor Society members were chosen at Rock Port High School. They are: Jared Meyerkorth, president; Kalen Smith, vice-president; Ben Gebhards, treasurer; and Lory Bressler, secretary.
• The Rock Port Blue Jays traveled to Bethany, Missouri, last Friday evening to take on the South Harrison Bulldogs in the Grand River Conference. The Jays lost to the Bulldogs 14-21 in overtime.
