The Rock Port Blue Jays hosted the East Atchison Wolves at Blue Jay Stadium Friday, September 11.
The Wolves received the ball to start the game, but Rock Port was able to hold the Wolves, forcing a punt. Rock Port got off to a slow start to the game offensively as East Atchison’s Josh Schlueter was able to force a turnover with a quarterback sack. The Wolves would take over on their own 36 yard line.
Three plays later, Logan Ellis would intercept a Schlueter pass to set up the first touchdown of the game by runningback Brock Sebek-Holmes. Four plays later, defensive back Jack Meyerkorth would get the second interception of the game, setting up the next touchdown by Sebek-Holmes.
On the next Wolves’ series, linebacker Brock Sebek-Holmes would cause a fumble on a screen to Braxton Davis-Schoonover in which Reid Ellis recovered the ball. On the next play, Reid Ellis’ number was called as quarterback Westyn Amthor hit him on a post route for a 23 yard touchdown. With a bad snap, the Jays recovered the ball on the Wolves’ seven yard line setting up quarterback Westyn Amthor to punch it in from four yards out. With 1:20 left in the first quarter, Amthor found Meyerkorth on a go route to score the final TD of the first quarter.
East Atchison would elect to go for it on a fourth down and three yards to go, but a dropped pass set the Jays up for their next score on a pass from Amthor to Meyerkorth. From the defensive side of the ball, Jack Meyerkorth caused a fumble and scooped it up to score, making it 54-0 Rock Port following the two point conversion. The final two points came after a bad snap on a punt in which the Jays would get a safety to bring the final score to 56-0 Rock Port.
The East Atchison Wolves are at home this Friday night, playing in Tarkio as they take on the South Holt Knights.
Rock Port will travel to Hopkins to take on Platte Valley for the fourth game of the season.
